Sorry I’m posting rather late about the Christmas attire.  I was admitted to hospital on December 29 and am just now home and recovering.

I thought Kate’s Christmas outfit was fresh and elegant.  Sparkles looked like a hot mess, as usual, with hair falling out of her bun and dandruff on her coat.  And why such dark, gloomy colors?  It’s Christmas, for heaven’s sake — lighten up!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Glad you’re on the mend SouthernBelle.
Meghan wears whatever she needs to make money merchandising. Funny that she finally wears VB as her company might have to close due to constant heavily losses.

The most popular beauty looks of 2018 revealed: Meghan’s natural wedding make-up, Kylie Jenner’s plump pout and Kim's razor-sharp contour were the top requested trends of last year
* Kylie Jenner's luscious lips came top of the most-wanted make-up looks of 2018
* Meghan's natural wedding make-up came runner-up on the beauty barometer
* The list was compiled by Bark.com and 2,000 make-up artists and beauticians
Meghan Markle's natural make-up was one of the of most wanted trends of 2018, coming in at number two on the list.
With 1.9 billion people tuning in to watch Meghan marry Prince Harry earlier this year, it’s no wonder that her makeup, the creation of MUA Daniel Martin, was so popular in 2018.
The duchess' elegant and simple look highlighted her natural beauty and was in high demand with make-up artists across the country.
Her natural look is achieved by sticking with light foundation and a touch of blusher, along with neutral eye shadow and sheer or pale pink lipstick.

Putting Meghan on lists guarantees press attention because she a divisive person. She uses too much bronzer to make herself darker than she actually is so she could play the race card whist out during public engagements. Harry wanted her to look herself; to show the world that she’s a very light skinned woman who’s used to passing herself off as white. I’m surprised that she’s not been accused of black face.  bored3

Look like pantomime dames. I wish 2019 would be the year we lost the duck pout and Klingon eyebrows - and the Kardashians and their ilk - but I doubt it.

Do people not realise that most of these women have had cosmetic procedures?

So fakery then. So sick of fake lips, brows, bums, contouring, hair extensions, nails, waist shapers....and the list goes on. Women are a big disappointment that this is all they aspire to and the men who encourage it are just as bad. Time to start promoting people who look normal and natural. There must be someone out there....you know, a bit of lip gloss and a touch of mascara and they're set for the day...

MM natural make up? It's caked on. With a trowel. Natural is not wearing it.

Beauty, she's definitely not, woof woof more like.

I posted this on the 2018 Fashion Files Thread, so I hope it's ok for me to post it again here:

Revealed: How Meghan Markle's stylist best friend Jessica Mulroney 'kept an eye' on Kate's style for inspiration - but made a 'conscious effort' to avoid accusations of copying
* Duchess of Sussex asked Jessica Mulroney for advice after joining royal family
* Jessica, who lives in Canada, kept an eye on Kate as she 'hasn't put a foot wrong'
* Pair worked together to switch Meghan's showbiz style for demure duch
The pair knew comparisons with the Duchess of Cambridge were inevitable and so aimed to give Meghan her own unique brand - but Jessica 'certainly kept an eye on Kate's style because she hasn't put a foot wrong', a royal insider told Elle.
Jessica also described Kate as a 'great role model' for Meghan as they set about overhauling her glitzy wardrobe for more royal-appropriate clothing.
The royal insider told Elle that Meghan is keen to ensure her work wardrobe is not too  'trend-conscious'.

She’s put more than a foot wrong. That outfit she wore to see Hamilton, she looked like a cheap escort with her bird legs on display as it was basically a jacket with no tights.  Lips Sealed

Duchess of Sussex’s 2018 wardrobe cost more than any other royal
Meghan comes in at number one with a spending of 478,386 € (USD 508,574). Although “number is likely higher because only 255 pieces out of her 324 new pieces have prices and thus are included in this amount.”
One of the reasons Meghan’s number is so high is the Cartier Reflection Wedding Bracelet and Earrings with a price tag of 206,022€ (USD 233,000). They have included this in the total since they were never confirmed as a gift. However, if it turns out Prince Charles did gift them to Meghan as rumoured, they would be deducted from the total.
http://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/harryandmeghan/duchess-of-sussexs-2018wardrobe-cost-more-than-any-other-royal-113714
There just seems to be more questions than answers. Why would her wardrobe cost more than any other member? We’re to believe that Charles would just pay this obscene amount of money at the same time expect the rest of the family economize? It’s about time the press comes out clean and say what’s going on. They know because they’ve been teasing the public with these Jessica articles.

Meg is the media's punching bag, that's why they make it out to seem that she's the greediest.

It's not a media punching bag and poor-Meg card if she kept spending and spending all year long, wrongly thinking that a set of new clothes will get the stink off of her past. Sorry not sorry.

No one else spent THAT much. The real figures are over 2 million, 1 million is the cost of outfits for the 16 day, 72 outfit me-me-me show Oz.

ALL the other royals - re-wear clothes, buy cheaper attires and as more frugal with the prices. Did Megan really need VB's crappy overpriced clothes and accessories for the Christmas walk?

I, for one, can't excuse the inexcusable.

Of course. Fergie got some good press for a while, but thing is, that she became the official scapegoat of the BRF and I knew that an wife of Harry's would be subject to tabloid abuse. Harry's wife could have been a Nobel prizewinner in all the areas where the award is granted, rich as Croesus, and drop dead gorgeous, but the press would subject said wife to one round of abuse after another. There is no way that any wife of Harry's would EVER be able to get better press than Kate. The palace will let Meg get abused since in that 'family' they prefer to let one spouse get all the abuse while the wife of someone of higher rank ends up getting better press no matter how worthless.

^ You're right. Usually the second son gets the playboy role and his wife the role of rotten apple.

But, but, this is not what's happening here:
1. Megan committed drug related crime in Jamaica and boasted about it
2. Wears winter clothes in summer and summer clothes in winter
3. Spends like there's no tomorrow
4. Used her own DM and twitter paid contributors to announce KP engagements.
5. Used her own speed dial paparazzo to snap the pics of her and Harry on the Jamaica wedding and same guy snapped her father "getting measured"
6. She stalked Cressida and Harry but lied she knew nothing of brf or Harry.
7. She was obsessed with Diana and with joining brf.
etc, etc

The press is not the bad guy here. The press is to be praised for publishing the ugly truths about her.

I applaud them for it.

Speaking of MM's style and choices of colors...

While I am probably one of her most ardent critics on this forum, I have to admit one thing: her choice of neutral colors is not necessarily the worst thing about her; Even though, yes - it CAN get boring.
Blacks, navies, grays and whites - a constant parade of neutrals that in the end are..well... boring.
Especially when no pop of color is used even in an accessory or lipstick.

As someone with relatively similar coloring to MM in terms of hair, eye color and skin undertone - except quite a few shades lighter in complexion and a bit more olive green/sallow undertones, as I am Caucasian - I can attest to how incredibly difficult it is for such strongly-colored brunettes to look at their best in anything other than deep, dark hues. Or white.

There's a world of gorgeous light, soft and muted pastels and rainbows out there, yet they're not for such people.
They are for KM. For QE. And all sorts of other caucasians of North-Western European descent.

Pastels can only do "nice" on strong brunettes - IF they are bright enough; but never "waow!!".

That being said, she could do all sorts of luscious, strong reds from Ferrari to magenta and cranberry; and some bright blues - which she did a few times, I think.
But in general, I can empathize with the draw to the safety of neutrals.

Neutrals are also supposed to be modern and she's all about getting out the "modern/with it" message.
So I think she also makes a political point out of this whole neutral wardrobe - not just because strong neutrals actually suit her.

Going beyond color choices, which are not the worst thing about her style - what I find highly unfortunate in this department, IMO, includes:

- wearing dresses/skirts that showcase those terrible chicken legs.
"Skinny legs" does not automatically translate into "good legs".
She could use a constant diet of pants as much as Hillary Clinton does for the opposite reason.

- her messy hair style with wisps left hanging around the face. Unfortunately, this style makes her hair type look greasy, unwashed and tacky. She is no elf or fairy who could - maybe -  pull off this look.

- her overly relaxed outfits given the formal, royal context. Showing up with the coat open and hanging like it's a "chill" party is not exactly in line with her role. She only manages to make herself look "lesser" by comparison with KM and other members of the RF whose perfectly fitted, bespoke pieces automatically elevate their posture.

- Her overall posture/persona is simply not dignified.
She either bends and contorts too much (like during the announcement of their engagement), constantly fidgets with her hands - pushing wisps out of the face, covering mouth giggling, cradling baby bump, etc.  She also has a defect step - she steps weirdly.
In many pictures one foot looks like it's about to have its ankle twisted when it is set before the other.

Overall, there is something traditionally "plebeian" about her allure. Not sure what style intervention could fix this. I am afraid this is a non-fixable.

^ It's non-fixable. That's why a $12K dress looks ugly or or badly tailored on her. That's why she couldn't make it in H'wood. Her biggest break is 1 line in Bad bosses but I'm guessing she invited the cast to her wedding and they didn't come because they didn't remember her.. With all of the black and navy blue she wears she wants to be the sexy royal, like Diana, but she just shows up as the tacky wannabe royal who gives the pat on the back to insinuate that there is cordial relationship, not.

Meghan's £400k wardrobe: How the duchess wore new clothing worth FIVE times more than any other royal woman in Europe in 2018 - while Kate's spend was a modest £68K
* Royal fashion experts UFO No More calculated cost of royal clothing in 2018
* They looked at royal wardrobes in Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Spain and Norway
* Researchers calculated the cost of 1,661 new pieces worn in past 12 months
* Findings suggest Meghan wore new clothing worth £406,662.55 last year
* The sum does not include custom pieces like bespoke Givenchy wedding dress
* In second place was Crown Princess Mary of Denmark then Countess of Wessex
The eye-watering sum - £406,662.55 ($508,258.25) - is revealed in new research published this week by royal fashion experts UFO No More, who have totted up the amount spent by British royals and their European neighbours on clothing and accessories over the past 12 months.
Researchers from the fashion blog - which stands for Unidentified Fashion Objects - calculated the cost of some 1,661 new pieces debuted in 2018 by royals in Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Norway and the Netherlands.

 flower timed out.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6554329/Meghan-Markle-spent-wardrobe-2018-royals.html
Long list of clothing items and cost for both Waity and Meghan's part of the article. I think that an explanation form KP or Charles is needed because why's she allowed this extravagance where's Waitys not? Why's er clothing paid for privately if we're to believe that this trollop's Harry's wife? Why's her wardrobe cost hanled differently from Waity's?

Who wore it best? Kylie Jenner steps out in the SAME $645 white tuxedo dress Meghan Markle wore in October
While on the royal tour to Australia and New Zealand in October, the Duchess of Sussex, 37, wore a white tuxedo dress by Maggie Marilyn
Kylie, 21, stepped out on New Year's Eve wearing the same mini by the New Zealand-based label
Both women made alterations to the $645 design; Meghan removed the sleeves while Kylie shorted the hem
The twinning moment comes just after Kim Kardashian revealed that she wants to become friends with Meghan
They are unlikely style twins but Kylie Jenner and the Duchess of Sussex have stepped out in the same garment.
During her visit to Wellington, New Zealand, as part of the royal tour in October, Meghan wore a short white tuxedo dress by local sustainability-focused designer Maggie Marilyn.
In order to ensure that the dress was as best suited to her style as possible, the former Suits star actually had the polished dress altered, removing the sleeves from the piece.
The cotton-twill 'Leap of Faith' Blazer Dress originally retailed for $645  Lips Sealed at Bergdorf Goodman, however it has since been reduced to just $316 in the sale.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6555361/Kylie-Jenner-steps-white-tuxedo-dress-Meghan-Markle-wore-October.html
Both look trashy. It looks better without the sleeves although too short in either version.

Am I the only one that sees that the two dresses are not the same? The length is different, one is sleeveless and the other one is with sleeves, one is a-line while the other is pouf.

What are we comparing? The whiteness of the color...? Cause that and the buttoning up front is pretty much the only two things that are 'the same'.

Can Meghan Markle save Posh's troubled empire? How the Duchess could help turn around the fortunes Victoria Beckham's fashion chain after adopting her clothes, friends and lifestyle
Meghan wore £6,000 worth of Posh's designs on Christmas at Sandringham
It was a sign of solidarity after Victoria Becham's label posted losses of £10m
Pair became good friends through their men and sources say Meghan confided in her about pregnancy
So there was something deeply loyal, and very timely, about the outfit chosen on Christmas Day by the Duchess of Sussex.
Attending the Royal Family’s traditional Sandringham church service, Meghan Markle stepped out head-to-toe in £6,000-worth of Victoria Beckham designs: an elegant calf-length navy dress costing £1,250, with matching £2,250 coat, £1,250 boots and £1,550 handbag.
But another signal of support was being very loudly sent to her friend and country neighbour, Victoria.
And, with the news last week that Posh’s fashion empire is again in the red — posting losses of more than £10 million at Companies House — plus the report that husband David is no longer prepared to pump money into his wife’s venture, the Duchess’s decision to show her backing surely speaks volumes about their friendship.  tehe
Victoria has previously said that she never gives freebies, because she cannot afford it, so we must assume that Meghan paid for the dress — and for all her subsequent purchases.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6559169/Can-Meghan-Markle-save-Poshs-troubled-fashion-empire-Duchess-wears-dress-act-solidarity.html
Meghan looked nasty with what looked like dandruff on her coat.  Lips Sealed  She's a brand killer and just because she gets the designer's press, she shouldn't be used as an unofficial brand ambassador. VB sent the whole lot over as a loan, imo, henced her dressed from head to toe in the line; big mistake on VB's part as this should be the year she closes the business.
Sadly, VB is going down the drain. I like her designs but felel that she went way too posh. She would've done a lot better with a line targeted towards the M&S in the UK, Macys shopper in the US.
