Truth be told, a lot of the coronations in European monarchies are rightly down scaled; considering the women's history and the scandals surrounding their marriages, frankly it would be a sham to have women like Mette-Marit and others being seated on thrones and anointed with holy oil and given the scepter and orb of state. Frankly it will never at all make sense that such women sit on those sacred thrones, wear the ermine, and have a church based full mass.

No monarchies in Europe or Scandinavia have actual coronations except for the British. Several have never had such a ceremony, others haven't for generations. I think the last one in Sweden for example was well over 100 years ago.

The coronations in europe and Scnadinavia have mainly be replaced by proclamation ceremonies.

It can be quite short like in Denmark ( the new monarch is announced by the Prime minister on the royal palace balcony, then he'she appears there and salute the crowds) or a bit longer ( see some years ago in the Netherlands with the King wearing ermine made an oath in front of the parliament.

I admit, when Charles has his, it will be kind of exciting to see it happen. He will likely go for a big one and I am certain that it'll be spectacular. Ermine, the coronets, the homage paid by all members of the BRF, and I am certain it will be amazing to see. Like him or not, it'll be an exciting time to be alive.

King Stephen of England had his coronation on Christmas Day, December 25, 1141 at Canterbury Cathedral. This was the second coronation for Stephen. He had first been crowned King of England on December 26, 1135 at Westminster Abbey.
