Queen enlists help of Duchess of Cambridge to host London Fashion Week event at Buckingham Palace
For centuries, the women of the Royal Family have used their clothes to send a message.

This year, they will put that soft diplomacy front and centre to cement Britain’s relationship with the Commonwealth, as the Duchess of Cambridge and Countess of Wessex team up on behalf of the Queen to host a fashion extravaganza.

The two women, regularly hailed as the most stylish members of the Royal Family, will host a Commonwealth Fashion Exchange Reception at Buckingham Palace in February, as part of the lead-up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
The ties of the Commonwealth are a key passion of the Queen, who has seen, and inspired, its growth from seven member countries to 52 during her reign.

Buckingham Palace this week announced the fashion reception will be held on behalf of the Queen during London Fashion Week to celebrate a new scheme to encourage cross-country partnerships.

It will see established designers including Stella McCartney, Bibi Russell and Karen Walker, paired with artisan producers in smaller or developing countries who “exemplify traditional handcraft techniques and trades”.

"The initiative uses fashion as a common language and platform to help people understand the modern Commonwealth in a different way," a spokesman for Buckingham Palace said.

“The reception at Buckingham Palace will showcase the best of Commonwealth contemporary fashion and creativity with an exhibition of some of the bespoke fashion 'looks' which are the result of these exchanges.”

The fashion reception, on February 19th, is part of an extensive programme of events surrounding CHOGM.

While the Queen will host dinners, meetings and formally open the summit, other members of the family have been asked to do their bit for Commonwealth relations.

While the Duchess of Cambridge’s style is analysed around the world at every opportunity, with labels regularly selling out of anything she wears to public engagements, the Countess of Wessex has also gained style plaudits in recent years for her look during her quiet, understated work for the Royal Family.

The pair will be considered the perfect combination, blending the safe pair of hands of the Countess, patron of the London College of Fashion, with the global profile of the Duchess to ensure all eyes are on the event.

Sophie is upstaged by the butler.    tehe

Kate upped her game on the Scandanavian tour, so I think she will be front and center at this one, while Sophie hovers in the background trying to get attention.

Meggles is getting attention right now for all the wrong reasons.  She has never looked glamorous since her engagement -- always a bit sloppy.   So, I give the point to Kate.  Which shows how bad off the BRF is right now . . . .  bored3

Meggles isn't getting all this attention right now because she's some fashion phenom or God's gift the the RF. All eyes are on her at the moment simply because she's the newest addition to the fold and we've been staring at the same group of people for years. It's no different than when you've had your cell phone for two years and Apple or Samsung decides to roll out the latest model.

Waity upper her game on recent tour due to improved behaviour, not that that's a great achievement in her case. Her fashion choices were widely panned

^ Well, some people panned her choices.   Others liked them.  For her, her thought she looked better than normal.  Even the flowered print dress in Sweden.  If the bottom ruffle could have been left off, it would have been nice.   I think Kate looks better than I've ever seen her in this ski jacket and cap:

So, again, it's Kate and the bar is low.  But she looked more confident and at least was a little more adventurous on this tour.

Meggles is just sloppy so far.

Annnnnd bringing it back on topic --- this is why I think Kate will definitely be front and center at this event.  Although Sophie will probably do something crazy to get attention.   Like come naked.    easter-James

Victoria Beckham will be showing her line during the week. Since she's allegidly mates with MM, will she be in the front row?  eating cookies  Hopefully, the press would've gotten rid of her by then, otherwise, she just might crash a few fashion shows as she's a "star" and a futiure royal bride.  eating cookies

^ VB's business wasn't ever afloat to begin with! Constantly in the red, being bailed out by David every year. She was somewhat successful whilst she had (famous) designers do her work, in spite of her claims that it was always all her, but it went really t*ts up when they left and she did more on her own. All she has is her celeb friends wearing her stuff (which she sends them for free or at a large discount).

Then the knighthood fiasco when the emails were leaked.... Which is why I am shocked that Murkles and Harry were so utterly utterly dumb to choose a VB pullover for the engagement shoot. The Becks couldn't be further in the pits, no one likes them, the knighthood scandal cemented the public's huge dislike for them, and then these dolts choose VB as designer, which really shows how out of touch they are. VB plus that fugly over-expensive R&R dress... smh.

VB didn't have a fashion sense, which is why her designs s*ck, especially since she's on pretty much her own. Her shop on Dover St is always empty. No clothes to be seen and no customers, either. I guess that fits into her "minimalist" style of the shop. All she did was follow the trends and constantly change like a chameleon along with David the Squeaker in the 2000s. She followed, she never made trends.

Having Waity be on this fashion thing... For one it's again sth fun for her and for another she's got to do something!

The Duchess of Cambridge and The Countess of Wessex hosts Commonwealth Fashion Exchange Reception
Quote
Launched on February 1st, by the Commonwealth Secretary-General, The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange aims to create partnerships between established and emerging talent from across the 52 member countries, in the lead up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London this April.

This is a great idea. I wonder if because of brexit, the UK goverm=nment and the royal family's looking more towards the commonwealth to make trade deals and highlight the talented people.

Victoria doesn't make an effort, that is the problem and always will be with these celeb fashion 'designers.'

Another Erdem on Kate, though ot quite the disaster as previous designs.. I like the length of this dress and the cut of it, but not the pattern

Kate again looking well and much bigger overall compared to Sweden, bigger legs, arms, bump, face. Hope she keeps it, she seems to be at her ideal weight now (bump/ pregnancy aside)

This Erdem dress is a "custom" one, the original is quite a bit shorter and costs 2150 pounds
