The first time a hint was seen of Prince Charles' jealousy of Princess Diana's huge appeal to the crowds was on their joint tour of Australia in March 1983. Instead of seven photographers, there were seventy.
What could Charles have done to make the crowds like him more?   huh huh

Smile, be friendly, and support his wife rather than view her as competition. He should have realized that Diana being popular was a positive reflection on him for choosing her to be his wife. I think he was planning on pushing her to the background after she had the heir and spare, but instead she stayed front and center because of her popularity, which upset him even more.

If Diana had been married to a politician, any husband would be THRILLED to have her as a wife since she would be his best asset and he would be raking in the votes while his wife shined.

^ Kuei Fei, That is well spoken. Did Prince Charles not realize that Diana was a wonderful asset?

^ He was too busy feeling sorry for himself that she was making headlines and on magazine covers instead of him. Does he not realize that grocery store magazines are targeted to/read by women? Housewives and working women on the go will add it to the conveyor belt at checkout. Of course they're going to put the wife on the cover, that's who their audience relates to more..

Charles never got it into his head that fashion is frivolous fun and it's not something that comes from nothing. He didn't appreciate half the work that goes into these designs and didn't appreciate how his wife revitalized good times for people. He didn't think that maybe, just maybe his wife would be an asset in that area and didn't realize that if he had gotten rid of Camilla for good and also grown up, he would have had the best possible tool to continue the monarchy into the modern era.

He was jealous of his own siblings, his wife and often he is jealous of his own children.   Apart from growing a pair, there is nothing he could have done.

Did not Prince Charles ever realize that no matter who he married, the crowds would be more interested in the new wife?

With his ego being stroked by the Queen Mum, nannies etc etc, I doubt it even occurred to him. Not very emotionally mature was is he?

Charles supposedly wanted to be treated "more special" than his siblings as the "heir." He was annoyed at his parents for not complying. But the Queen Mum made him the center of the universe and of course "special."  The ironic thing is if Diana had acted aloof with the crowds, she'd have been criticized for being "a snob" then when the people took to her Charles could not stand it.

She did not fall down the stairs, she fell down some steps during a row with Charles who was leaving his pregnant bride probably to see Camilla at the hunts.  Charles is like a baby, he wants what he wants when he wants it. I don't blame Diana for being upset when she found out he still needed the nanny/mistress, Camilla. A real man would have dropped his mistress before he even thought of marrying. Charles got to have his cake and eat it too. The Camilla gate tapes shows how "Mature" (LOL) Charles really was.

Charles getting to marry the mistress paved the way for Kate and Meghan. Charles treated Diana like dirt. Stayed with her just long enough to breed the heir and spare.

If only Charles had realized that whoever he married, that lady would become The Princess of Wales. They would be The Prince AND The Princess. They should be equals.

She tossed herself down stairs, she stalked married men on the phone, she played games -  she was no saint. She was a Spencer - they have been playing the political game for 300 years - they are no innocents.

What married men? It was found yes that DIana made phone calls to Hoare but some crank calls were reportedly made at the same time. Diana did not "stalk" him. Wharfe and Jephson wrote that he pursued her and called her and even moved out on his wife. WHy is there such a double standard here? HE never condemned Diana publicly nor ever discussed what happened between them. He is still married to his wife.

OTOH Camilla broke up a "biggie" the marriage of the Prince and PRincess of Wales. She made it plain she was "there" for Charles and she should have butted out. I don't think the woman would have given Charles the right time had he not been the POW> I see her as a greedy woman. And she is not popular with everybody to say the least. Charles did not have enough sense to drop her. And before Diana, he bedded two of his friends' wives yet he does not receive any criticism by some  because after all he was "entitled" and could do what he pleased.

Carling denied he had an affair with Diana. ANd his wife had no leg to stand on to name Diana as co-respondent.

She did not "toss herself down the stairs." Wouldn't you think she'd have some broken bones if she had. It was a few steps on a landing. She wrote a letter to a friend at the time saying it was a few steps. Check out Bradford and other books.

You give Charles free passes for his rotten behavior. I think he and Camilla have much to answer for. Trashing Diana (ala Junor) does not make C and C noble characters. Diana is no saint but then again C and C are certainly not saintly, just two people out for themselves.

Charles had to do the courting. Diana was on the "suitable" list  of potential brides. If he thought the Spencers played games, he would have found someone from another family. Philip said DIana would breed "tallness" into the family. So her selection was very "scientifically" done.

Diana was treated with great disrespect by Charles and his mistress. I doubt she would have looked at another man had Charles not cut her loose and early on gave Camilla her walking papers so she could live the dull life without the perks with her dull husband in the country

the 300 crank calls were told to be from Diana and places she had access to...

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/palace-silent-on-nuisance-calls-1378008.html

diana and oliver hoare, according to all accounts, willingly saw each other... never saw anyone saying he forced himself on her... jephson and whafe wrote in their books they knew he was visiting her at kp... the same about charles and camilla, according to all accounts, they willingly saw each other... never saw anyone (including diana) saying camilla forced charles cheat on diana... diana herself said charles was always calling camilla during the honeymoon and willingly took the camilla' cufflinks and photos to britania. but charles and camilla obviously had no right to trap a 19-years-old virgin in a sham of marriage because they thought she was a suitable mouse to their messy 'love affair'. they richly deserve/d the morton book and panorama interview bad pr

charles is a spiteful and narcissist poor excuse of a man... any charismatic woman will be completely unsuitable to him

Jephson and Wharfe who did not like Hoare duly reported that he pursued her and they were seeing each other. It was not like Diana was a stalker. The man was willing. Whatever caused their breakup is known only to them. it went with Diana to her grave and I doubt Hoare will ever speak about Diana in his lifetime.

Charles could have dropped Camilla. Camilla could have stopped seeing and contacting Charles. IF one had made the effort perhaps it would have ended the relationship. Charles pursued Lady Kanga but when she was no longer "necessary" to him, he coldly dumped her and would not even phone her when she was dying.

what was really sickening was Camilla trying to mentor Lady Diana. Camilla clearly had her own agenda and had absolute contempt for Diana.

It would not have mattered because in Chucky's mind, nobody but nobody could or would be equal to him.
