Disgraced bishop Peter Ball reneged on a deal to move abroad to escape prosecution in 1993, and instead rented a house from the estate of his ‘friend’ Prince Charles.
The cleric told police he would live with nuns in France in return for receiving the caution as part of an alleged agreement with a ‘sympathetic’ detective who wanted to help the church avoid the scandal of a criminal trial.

Prince Charles is to give evidence at child sex abuse inquiry into handling of allegations made against disgraced ex-bishop Peter Ball

A written statement from Prince Charles will be read out at the inquiry tomorrow
Ball, who has boasted of being a confidant of Charles, was jailed in October 2015
Former Bishop of Lewes had sexually abused 18 young men over three decades
He was released in February last year after serving half his sentence behind bars

Blow just statements being read out. I think Charles should be called in person to this Inquiry to face questioning about why he backed Ball to the hilt, giving him refuge even after serious questions were raised about this man's behaviour.

Charles has THE worst judgement about people of practically anyone I can think of in public life. Others were fooled by Saville but then you get van der Post, Armand Hammer and this fellow as friends and mentors of Charles, probably because they were great in telling him what a fantastic intellect he has!

In some legal scenarios statements are not admissable unless the person making that statement is willing to be cross examined. Should definitely apply here but we all know many in high places  have been getting away with dreadful things

Concern' over Prince Charles's abuse inquiry letter

A lawyer has voiced concern that the Prince of Wales is being treated differently from other witnesses at an investigation into child sexual abuse.

Richard Scorer said there was "surprise and concern" the prince did not have to provide a formal witness statement.

The inquiry into how allegations against former bishop Peter Ball were handled heard a letter from the prince would instead be read out on Friday.

The ex-Bishop of Lewes and Gloucester was jailed in 2015 for sex offences.

Ball, who was Bishop of Lewes, in East Sussex, between 1977 and 1992 and Bishop of Gloucester from 1992 until his resignation the following year, admitted a series of offences between the 1970s and 1990s against 18 teenage boys and young men at a trial in October 2015.

He was released from prison in February 2017, having served half his sentence.

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) is focusing this week on how allegations against Ball were dealt with by the Church of England and other authorities.

Statement of truth

Mr Scorer, who represents some of Ball's victims, questioned the status of the prince's evidence, suggesting it might be "less than entirely frank about his personal relationship with Peter Ball".

He said unlike the more usual witness statement, a letter was not verified by a "statement of truth" - regarded as the equivalent of swearing an oath.

But the hearing was told that the final line of Prince Charles's letter - making clear that the information was true - was considered by the inquiry to comply with the requirements of a statement of truth.

Counsel to the inquiry, Fiona Scolding QC, said the prince's lawyers had argued that the inquiry had no power to compel him to submit a statement.

But she said that after discussions, it was agreed that the prince would provide a signed statement that would cover all the topics that needed to be addressed.

Prof Alexis Jay, who chairs IICSA, announced at the start of the hearing in London that the inquiry would be investigating a leak of Prince Charles's statement after details were reported in the media last week.

She said the leak was "a very serious breach of confidence" perpetrated by "someone with direct access to information in this investigation".

Diana was said to call Charles "the great white hope" or "the boy wonder" with tongue firmly in cheek, no doubt.

He really isn't very bright if he cannot or will not understand what a legal caution means.

And to think he is  going to be monarch and head of state too! Question should must be asked if he is fit to lead country/countries if he cannot even understand the law he is meant to uphold.

No wonder Diana said in thta Panorama interview that she "knew the character" and didn't think he was up to the 'top job' as she put it. Or words to that effect. (Now I know she did prefer William take on the job, but he's as useful as a chocolate fireguard, IMHO).

But seriously, there must be discussion by the press whether he should be head of state.

Whatever, the Queen will intervene and quash all allegations.  Questions are being asked now as to whether she has intervened in the Pips’s father in law’s supposedly *nasty* allegations.  It’s about time the RF were stripped of the powers to do this.

Absolutely Val. It is beyond disgusting that paedophiles have been protected throughout the years. I wonder how HM would feel if one of her grandchildren had been subjected to such heinousness. God Only Knows what HM has intervened and covered up.

It is time The Establishment is exposed for what they truly are. And it is time for all those who protected them to be exposed. The piper wants to be paid.

^ Excellent question. Might be the question of the decade. We all know about the establishment, grey men, MI5, 6 etc, "they know everything" yadda yadda, and I really don't know what this proves. They're all in on it? They don't actually know what's going on? All inept? How are these associations allowed? For crying out loud, Chuck has a whole ring of pe*dos around him! Jimmy S., this bishop and there are more. In the family rumoured too.
