In Royalty magazine, it was declared: Among the candidates for Princess Elizabeth's future husband were:
Charles Fitzroy, Earl of Euston; John Dalkeith, son of the Duke of Buccleuch and Charles Manners, Duke of Rutland.
Other British noblemen were Lord David Mountbatten, the 2nd Marquess of Milford-Haven and David Ogilvy, the 13th Earl of Airlie.
European Royals were Prince Bertil of Sweden and Prince Gorm of Denmark.

Would any of these gentlemen have been a good Prince Consort?

Elizabeth fell in love with Philip when she was 13. Many people around her wanted her to marry someone else, but she refused. I think these men would have left her because she did not want them. If something happened to Philip before they got married, I believe she would have learned to love another man and made her marriage work. She comes from a time when people worked through their marital problems rather than divorced.

Henry Herbert, Lord Porchester first met Princess Elizabeth in 1944 when she was seventeen and he was twenty. Henry and Elizabeth shared a love of racing and breeding horses.

They were good friends and some may have wanted her to marry him instead, but she loved Philip.

The Queen could have been Elizabeth Herbert.

Wasn't Johnny Spencer a remote possibility at one time? I can't remember if I actually read it or dreamed it.  Cool

A few years ago I had read an article that remarked that some people had thought that Edward John Spencer might marry Princess Elizabeth.

Prince Gorm of Denmark was the son of Prince Harald of Denmark. Harald was the son of King Frederick VIII of Denmark. If Princess Elizabeth had married Prince Gorm, would she have acquired any Danish royal titles?
