Francis Joseph was born in Vienna, Austria in 1830. He was the eldest son of Archduke Francis Charles, who was the brother and heir of Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria.
Francis Charles renounced his right to the throne. Francis Joseph became emperor when Ferdinand abdicated in 1848.
He married Elisabeth, the daughter of Duke Maximilian of Bavaria, in 1854.
Francis Joseph died on November 21, 1916.

I love Sissi, made by Romy Schndeir, I put my hair a little pulled red just because of this movie. But it only appears red when the sun hits. But this movie was a charm. And it seems that men fell easily in love with the true Sissi, everyone fell in love easily with her .... she had charisma.... But the death of this actress who made the film Sissi was a very sad thing, she lost her son, she said that the son was the light of her eyes .... It must be a very cruel pain a mother bury a child ... .and some time later she died, some claim that it was suicide, that she died heartbroken .... today she is buried along with her son in Paris.

Romy Schneider life was really sad. She nearly married Delon but he was cheating on her. Then she had many addictions.

Romy's life was tragic, the end especially.. Sisi's life was fairly tragic too...
Romy's daughter is an actress as well! An acting dynasty, that family..

When Emperor Ferdinand I abdicated in 1848, Archduke Francis became Emperor Francis Joseph I. Did he include Joseph in his regnal name as a tribute to Emperor Joseph II?

^ I don't know, I don't even know whether he had more given names than those two, which would be unusual for the Austrian imperial family to "only" have two names.

Two stories I have with me: Sissi, and Inês de Castro. Inês de Castro is a story fantastic, not even death has separated them. I want to go to Coimbra knows where they are buried easter-egg-basket
But Sissi,  from what I read Franz was always crazy about her, and no woman could replace his love for her.
And as for Romy Schneider, without words to describe her role as Sissi...My father and I already watched Sissi together so much that I believe we already decorate each piece https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4hoCbUM47A

Wikipedia gives his name as Franz Joseph or Francis Joseph.

Did Francis Joseph have to get a papal dispensation to marry Elisabeth?

After she turned 32, Empress Elisabeth did not allow anyone to take pictures or paint portraits of her.

The reason was that she was insanely vain and wouldn't allow anyone to see her "old". She wanted to be eternally remembered as "young and beautiful" and she was said to be (one of) the most beautiful woman in her time. Which is also why she carried fans and/ or parasols/ umbrellas with her, for one to hide from gawking people (to not see her "old" face) and for another so she could "hide" from the paparazzi and make their pics worthless (yes, even back then!). She started the trend for star shaped jewellery btw, which is why most houses now have star tiaras and brooches!

On top of that the Austrian court was incredibly restrictive and she too free-spirited. She loathed sitting for portraits and would allow for one of her last portraits for the painter to see her only once, as she quickly passed through a room. But the kaiser loved the portrait in the end and said it's the best of his wife and very true to life (not entirely sure which one it was anymore, but I think this one http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-u0Eh4ImE-g/TIppLau4fVI/AAAAAAAADyM/dFvxTJ6pOCI/w1200-h630-p-k-no-nu/sissi6ne9.jpg )

But we do know what she must have looked like late in life, there are a couple of pics (very grainy though) and her deathmask (https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1467&bih=703&q=sisi+todesmaske&oq=sisi+todesmaske&gs_l=img.3...644.4381.0.4504.19.17.2.0.0.0.164.1747.12j5.17.0....0...1.1.64.img..0.8.777...0j0i10k1j0i30k1j0i8i30k1j0i24k1j0i10i24k1.0.75J2qkktN4A).

Wow, I did not know that. There are people who really have true idolatry with their own appearance, that enslaves the person, but she really was very beautiful, and very loved by her husband. This is a story I love, and also the story of Inês de Castro, do we have topic in the forum about Inês de Castro? Neither death prevented Dom Pedro from making Ines - the woman he loved - queen. He was buried with her, so that in the resurrection he would stand beside her. A man when he loves a woman, there is no way, he puts the world on the ground, but he does not give up on her love.
I have true adoration for the film of Sissi made by Romy Scheneider, there is no Christian who makes me cut my hair or leave black, which is the natural color, I always pull to a little red because of the film  eating cookies
