Nice. Classic English lady. Nothing unusual about her.

These royal spouses...weren't they supposed to look and act like this?... instead of the surreal slimy, prole circus some new additions have contributed to the image of "The Crown?"

I don't know much about Sophie of Wessex and I am convinced that she is no angel fallen from the sky (aka human), but she truly looks like a brutal reminder of the generational change in royal spouses and the demise of the monarchy as we know it.

Now we have The Prolarchy and its icky reality shows.

Happy Decline, everyone!

Very classy when she was selling the RF to get money.

I don't think any of these that have married in ever had any home training. None of them know how to behave.

^^ I don't know anything about that. I am talking about how she LOOKS / COMES ACROSS.
As mentioned above, I am sure she's no angel fallen from the sky. But in social life - looks, decorum, packaging, MATTER for anyone. Let alone for the Royals who live on PR.

Unless they were raised on the streets, they would have some sort of decorum and manners as well as knowing the proper way to act, speak and dress. But I would take Sophie over any of the other royal women, including Anne.

^ Agreed. Do we have an Anne thread?
I have some opinions to express about this lady. Of the strong variety - the opinions, not the lady.
What is wrong with her? Yes, I know it's off topic - I'll find my way there.

Sophie works as a Royal Wife because she wanted to be royal above all else.  She didn't care about a happy marriage -- she was willing to put up with whatever to get the ring and keep it.  She wanted to keep her job and use her royal connections to make money (as is Megs now) but when the hammer fell on her and her hapless husband, she quickly fell into line because she didn't want to be the owner of a PR company -- she wanted to be a Royal Wife.   She quickly sized up the Queen and played to her and became The Most Favorite for a period of time. It doesn't matter about that anymore because the Queen is handing over her power/duties, so that is no longer of benefit to Sophie.    Sophie has used PR herself -- after all, she knows how the play the game having been in it -- to talk about how worthy she was and how glamorous and a safe pair of hands, etc., etc.

Meanwhile, her young daughter was dressed like an orphan for years when appearing in public, while Sophie was expensively and glamorously attired, and who knows what's going on with the son, poor little soul.

Sophie is the ultimate social climber.  But because she is so boring and Edward so unimportant, she managed to fly mostly under the radar.

I do, however, agree that in the Business of Being a Royal, Sophie and Edward are doing their jobs well.

This marriage benefits both Soph and Eddie. She gets all the perks, expensive clothes, gets to wear awesome jewels on occasion, gets to travel for free etc. He is reasonably safe from the gay rumors and he can play solider dress up.

She also has rumours of treating her staff badly. And did anyone remeber that weird story about her cook?

I'm not really surprised. When Charles was two the then Princess Elizabeth returned to England from Malta where she'd been spending time with Philip and went to the races in Norfolk and then to Sandringham instead of rushing back to London to her son's birthday. Charles was with the QM anyway.

The Queen is indulgent at the wrong times. She just sat and watched while Charles married Diana and she knew all about Camilla and her hold on Charles. She let Charles take Camilla as his official escort ca. 1980 and caused a scandal.  She was warned about Camilla in the seventies but did nothing. She allowed Camilla in and lowered the bar. She showed no sympathy for Diana. She just never got it right. She also left the children when she played the "ordinary" housewife in Malta.

If it's good enough for Meghan, it's good enough for Edward! Now the Wessexes arrive in St Moritz by £24,000 private plane for a skiing holiday days after the Duchess of Sussex raised eyebrows with her £100,000 New York flight

Meghan's hardly the only one who spends money in that family.

Queen marks Prince Edward's 55th birthday by giving her youngest son a new title - the Earl of Forfar - to use when in Scotland

Nice birthday present ! Though I'm still convinced Edward and Sophie will become Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh when the time comes.
