This bit was odd too

Her Majesty The Queen approved the Duchess of Cambridge membership to the Tuvalu Order of Merit
Source: Royal.uk Charities and Patronages

Note it does not say the Queen has awarded this membership to council cath, but only approved it. Could hardly so no could she.

Seems they are not looking for a royal to award it either.  And strange no councils cath or caro going bananas and leaking it out to all and sundry media departments.  Hardly worth bothering about, and means zilc, and it was 5 years since they visited that tiny little inconsequential piece of land in the middle of a vast ocean.  Most of us had never heard of it. What a hoot.

Found this on a blog, so council cath not the only one getting this award

The cambridges are now both getting the award and will receive highest Tuvalu award... for just VISITING the nation

http://www.express.co.uk/...dleton-tuvalu-award-visit

Discussions are under way for William and Kate to be invited to an investiture in London to each receive the Tuvalu Order of Merit in recognition of their 2012 visit to the Polynesian nation of nine tiny islands with a combined population of 11,200 spread over 10 square miles.

Their visit there as part of a tour of Asia and the Pacific marking the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 produced iconic images of the royal couple.

Tuvalu's honorary consul in London, Dr Iftikhar Ayaz, confirmed that the couple have now been honoured almost five years later to recognise the joy that their visit brought to Tuvalu.

"Whenever they have been reminded about it, they have expressed great affection and love for the country," he said.

Dr Ayaz, who runs the tiny nation's consulate in Britain from a semi-detached house in Wimbledon, hopes the investiture ceremony will be held soon in a London hotel, or the Commonwealth Secretariat offices in the capital if the Commonwealth Secretary General Baroness Scotland gives permission.

"I have written to the Queen's private secretary, Sir Christopher Geidt, asking if he will present the Duke and Duchess with the medals," he said.

The Queen approved the honour on the advice of her government ministers in Tuvalu, who made the awards on the national day, October 1, last year. But  it seems nobody outside of the Royal Household noticed until this week.

So basically, a tin pot award from 5 years ago, and nothing actually to do with HM awarding it as such.  Did laugh at this Whenever they have b een reminded about it, they have expressed great affection and love for the country
So memorable they only think about it when reminded about it,

What a non event, sorry Tuvalu, hardly registers on any scale, and most certainly not on HM´s.  laugh

@MajestyMagazine
The Duchess of Cambridge is wearing the family order for the second time. It’s first outing was at the Diplomatic Corps reception in December. #NetherlandsStateVisit
Unlike other examples of the family order, the Duchess of Cambridge’s is made of glass rather than ivory.

Another downgrade; ivory is the more precious material and this is another signal that she in fact is still held at a distance.

it is made out of glass and not ivory because of the whole work William is doing to stop the use of ivory . how would that look your husband is trying to stop the use of ivory /poaching and his wife show up wearing something made out of ivory?

@FabiannaLS
The Duchess of Cambridge Kate received her Royal Family Order in 2017 and first wore it to the Diplomatic Reception last December. These are the only pics we got of that event, so we could not

It still took her six years, more than six years, to get that order and Tuvalu is not at all much by way of major power. If she wore an order for a bigger and more powerful country, I wager she would in fact be happier, since it would sedn a signal that she is more respected.

It must frustrate her that the BRF is being so begrudging in stuff like honors and jewels and the things she waited for all those years.

William wouldnt have accepted ivory.

I wonder if it bugs her though; she is determined to be as part of the establishment as possible and it is clear that she has no interest in doing any real activist work, in fact I think she does not care at all. It still makes her stand out as not one of the more established senior ladies and the other ladies wear ivory while she wears glass.

Isn't ivory illegal anyway these days? Hardly worth mentioning that it isn't made of ivory, except in the sense of "well done".
With Will's campaigning if the order had been made of ivory it would have been the worst example of "hypocrisy".
I also doubt it bugs her. Ivory isn't precious at all, more important are the diamonds anyway. Now if those were zirconias, then even I'd have a fit! Kate-Horror-Queen easter-lol

She waited and waited! Finally got this as well, but I think she only got it because it was embarrassing that she didn't have it still 5ish years in.

That dress is fugly. I love the colour and the upper part, but from approx the waist down.. Yikes!

You know, with the BRF, Kate can't seem to just step in, they always keep her waiting. It must be frustrating that she still has to struggle to get all those honors and perks.

As for the dress, it is McQueen in name only.

The Queen has become slower at giving the RFO to married in wives in more recent decades.

The last wife to get the honour within a year or so of marriage was Diana. Sarah was married for six years and never received it.

Having Kate wait for six or so years therefore isn't a stretch at all.

It will be interesting to see how long Meghan has to wait. I doubt that the Queen will give it to her any faster than Kate but time is also running out. There is a very real possibility that the Queen mightn't see another five years and thus Meghan may not get it at all but then again the Queen may decide 'time is running out and I want her to have my order' and give it to her this year or next. We will have to wait and see.

Sadly we will probably never know if her granddaughters have her order - or get Charles' - as they won't attend events where they can wear it.

Any bets that HM giving Kate the honor is in fact a way of giving in and accepting that Kate will not be leaving the BRF? I sometimes think that HM might have had the deluded hope that the marriage wouldn't work and that Kate would be gone by now. Somewhere along the lines HM unbent and accepted that Kate wouldn't be replaced.

Yes she could, but bad optics if Kate had done that, due to William's crusade against Ivory poaching. It's better in glass, in view of that but I hope in the future porcelain is used.

^^^ & ^^ That idea occurred to me as well, re-use an older setting with ivory in it, but as Rosella says very bad optics, it would've gone down like a lead balloon. PR-wise a nightmare. They shouldn't re-use ivory for new stuff either imo, as it keeps ivory going in a way. What's there should stay obvs, but anything that's made new should find other sources, like newly bestowed upon orders (as with K).

I think this might also set a (good) precedence and have all future orders made of glass or other sustainable materials, incl any family orders Liz might still dish out and Chuck in the future etc.

I also wondered if they even have any orders that could be re-used, as recipients keep them for life and then aren't they heirlooms for the archives of the wearer's descendants? Maybe there aren't any that could've been re-used.

It's worked out as is for the best though.
