Because her control freak mother The Viper has programmed her to do so.

It's a psychological thing, the more she dresses like her, makes herself out to look like a delicate petal in need of protecting the more he protects her and feels that he's putting things right, rewriting his past and giving himself whatever idealic life. Meanwhile she's playing him like a fiddle cause she's a wolf in sheeps clothing. So long as she keeps up the act she's good, but how long can she keep pretending to be someone she's not before it crumbles (is crumbling) that's why she hides. Name of the game is to keep him thinking that he sees something of his mother in her even though there's not a shred, even if its just fashion sense.

^ Didn't think of that, how stupid of me, excellent explanation. Very cunning.
It's definitely crumbling, every game, no matter how excellently played, can only go on for so long. Thank goodness.

Same goes with people who spend however much to buy clothes so they can look like Kate because they WANT TO BE like Kate. She wants the public acclaim, admiration, and love that Diana had but hasnt got the work ethic, motherwit or charitabke spirit to pull it off. Otherwise she'd be swimming in it, what she can do is copy to a point Diana's outfits with Mummy Dearest's help and puck stuff out that keep people comparing her to Diana and what similar taste they have, etc...same as anyone who buys anything a celebrity bought because they want to be like them by buying/wearing the same things.

So what's she gonna do when she becomes older than Diana was when PD died?  It ain't that long from now.  Or is a black blazer and white jeans going to be the last we see of the copycatting?

dontknow How long can you play a contrived character before you lose all sense of self and become a shell of a human being, if she looks like a robot and acts like one its because she's literally just going through the motions of what people expect of her. The copying is just a facade, thats why her outfits never seem to suit her. Because its not her. When someone's true to their style or aesthetic everything they have in their wardrobe suits them and you can tell, only thing that I've ever seen that truly in my mind stuck out to me of being truly Kate was this:

http://pin.it/sKJrj-n
http://pin.it/TyX4QGd
http://pin.it/5NcEu1f
The reason she looks like crap is cause she deviated from this and turned herself into something she isn't. She looks good here does'nt she, looks like herself, because here everything is genuine.

thankyou flower I've just been wondering why she is the way she is for so long some of the pieces have started coming together to form a pattern. Problem with Kate is we've been trying to crack her like she's the German Enigma code and getting nowhere with it because her code has been corrupted. So you have to look at what was Basic Kate that looked like she actually was herself and had some life in her and what she's like now and ask what went wrong. All boils down to she stopped being true to herself and started copying Diana and others hoping to be accepted by them, look like them, went full on Sloane even just to try and fit in with his set and keep his attention.

Diana copying is just the tip of the iceberg, she's copied everybody until she got what she wanted which was him. That's why she does like hanging around with his friends anymore, one she's learned everything she needed to fit in fron them that she nedded to to get him and she also gets reminded of what she had to give up of herself to be that way. I wouldn't want those sorts of reminders around would you?

Think I've gone a little off topic here, but I really just think her copying Diana was just a way to subconsciously be "IN" with him because she reminded him of his mum.

That pink off the shoulder dress looked smashing on Diana. It looks ridiculous on Cousin It.

Diana was slim yet had some curves. Diana dazzled with jewellery and wasn' t afraid to show it covering with her hair.
Diana was beautiful, inside and outside, Kate is not.

Diana had a cream-colored, pin-striped Kathryn Walker coat dress that was the exact same fabric as Middleton's copy.
