Some of these doctors are pessimistic idiots; one almost walked away from operating on my grandmother after she had heart attacks and she convinced him to do it. He almost walked because it counts against a doctor that ends up losing a patient. Which is why I am more than a little skeptical that the situation is hopeless.

There's a fine neuronal net at the brains basis, the formatio reticularis, which, if it's damaged, will never bring Pr. Friso back into consciousness. But there is a small number of cases where out of reasons, which aren't explored completely yet, where this part of the brain gains back it's function -may be as a reason of the shock, or some new synapses are built etc..
There's a small hope that this will happen with him too. But no matter what the outcome will be, Pr. Friso will be a case for medical care the rest of his life. Everything else would be a wonder!

I had a bad feeling too when I heard it. It didn't sound good, but I am hoping for the best.
One plus is that he was healthy and strong, so he has the ability to fight.

I wonder will he live like Sunny Von Bulow did, in a coma for years?

It is so sad.

I'm just sorry that anybody's got to deal with hospitals, doctors and 'specialists'.  It's unnerving for everyone.  I do wish he hadn't taken that risk, but some do and this is an excellent cautionary tale.

After riding what happend, well there is no way that he could be OK...

Remeber 25 minutes above snow, it's hard to breath.. and then they needed 50 minutes to bring him to life again... too much time without oxigen!

I'm sorry but I can see a pink future for him.. If he survives, his life will be a misery!

In life nothing happens by accident. we must remember that there are no good that lasts forever. And evil that never ends. God works in mysterious ways. So I just have to accept what happens because we do not know what we gain by things go this way. Not always what initially seems an award is the. This happens when we fall in love, when we found out a new job when a friend disappears or when someone leaves for ever.

At the moment, no, it doesn't look very good, but that's why they use the word 'risk'.  I will hold good thoughts, tho, and send prayers.

I am still very upset at the, to me, idiots that lost their lives in Washington State recently.  They, too, wanted a 'thrill'.

I’ve been following this all week.  This was not the news everyone was hoping for.  It’s just too awful for words.

I’m glad to hear that your husband’s friend recovered from a similar situation, Serene Grace.  Thank you for telling us that.  I guess as long as Prince Friso’s alive, there’s a small glimmer of hope.  I’ll keep him in my thoughts and continue to pray for him.

Having been a skier in my 'youth', I'm somewhat annoyed at this, but pray for everyone involved.  It's all about analyzing the risk vs the outcome.  Sad, really, that those who choose risk never consider the outcome.  I've seen it too many times to be indifferent.

SG :  i too have been hoping for the best outcome and praying for him and the RF, but the thought of Sunny von Bulow crept into my conscious thoughts too.  I really pray it will not be the same outcome as that poor woman.

Well, I hope you guys won't think of me as insane, but in a way there is a method to come to terms with this. Instead of looking at him as a lost cause, she can spend time reading to him, talking to him, watching shows and playing music, while the kids can end up paying visits, talking to him, sending him small gifts, and pretty much continuing to see him not as dead, or in some limbo, but always listening and they can talk to him. Nothing is stopping them from continuing ot make him a part of things and nothing is stopping them from being a part of him in a lot of positive ways.

Such a tragedy, so needless.  I am sure he is getting the very best of care.

My thoughts are with his wife, children, mother and family.

Having worked in this field, I feel awful for all involved.

That's what I am hoping too Kuei Fei, that they continue to have family visits, read to him, sit with him, talk to him, play music, etc , because his heart and body are all strong, even though the prognosis is not good now, people do come out of coma's.
Still what is meant to be will be.

I get the feeling though, something is being not said in the press.  If a certain part of his brain is damaged which controls his breathing then there may be more going on that's not being reported. If he can't breathe on his own then that is even worse

perhaps because there is nothing to say.

It's not the business of the press or public to know everything and it's not the business of the press or public until the DRF decides to make it public and the press is not someone who has to be answered to a this point. I am seriously sick of the entitlement mentality that hte media has, that for some reason the press has to be briefed by the press themselves in order to end up making everything legitimate. It's the business of Mabel and the DRF first, not the press first and then the public and the DRF is going through an impossible time right now and the last thing the press has any right to, is to know every little minute detail. At the moment while he is in a coma/vegitative state, I am sure that the situation is ebtter than having him dead and buried. While there is life, there is hope.

Sorry, but that's only necromancing. In a coma you don't have any reception for stimula whatsoever anymore.
I know some people who treat their beloved ones, who fell into a vegetative coma (=a coma with eyes opened), like normal people. That's only self deception no matter how much they swear that their friend or relative replies to their love

a good medic is advised to say nothing to the press especially to those vultures of the tabloids. Medical confidentiality is not without a reason mandatory for any medic.
