Can you imagine a time when the truth ran free ...

^^^ Without exclusivity and elitism a monarchy, any monarchy, ceases to serve its purpose, that being the betterment of society and culture. The foundation of such a belief system is patriarchy and existed long before the Romanovs implemented such ideation as law. Monarchies have fallen, both literally and figuratively. Such a system is meant to rise above and very few royal houses have succeeded in maintaining high standards. They've lost the plot. ... On the other hand, the House of Romanov has refused to fall, even though defunct. Over the long run, I believe it will be the steadfast adherence to an ever evolving tradition that will put them back in their rightful place, as guardians of their people & their cultural heritage. ...

He is highly eligible, however defunct officially, it still does exist. Heir to two thrones is nothing to sniff at and both are ancient.

^^^ I'm not so sure he's really so eligible. Meaning that he's got a limited number suitable women to choose from and I'm sure there will have to be a chemistry between him and whomever he chooses, as I would hope he wouldn't marry someone for convenience, but a God-given complement whom is meant to be with him. ...

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it too. It's just, I think he'll do just fine since after all, he is able to find more than enough princesses sicne there are many out there. In Eastern Europe and Western, dethroned (no metter the preference from reigning) or enthroned, he'll find someone. It would simply be delicious for there ot be a princess out there who would epitomize modern with old fashioned personal values.

Today they married in the Friedenskirche by Potsdam/Germany.
Sophie was born as Princess of Isenburg and is since Wednesday Princess of Prussia. Georg Friedrich is the grand-grandson of tle last German emperor Wilhelm II.
The bride wore the Isenburg tiara and a 181 years old veil. At the dinner later she wears the Mäander-Tiara, a gift from Crown Prince Wilhelm (grand-grandfather of Georg) to Crown Princess Cecilie of Prussia. She also wears a gown designed by Wolfgang Joop.

How wonderful, two aristocrats, born aristocrats, actually go figure, WORK FOR A LIVING, and then proceed to fall in love and get married. In my ecstasy I now have ot go away and do the bunnyhump with a fellow courtier.

This has been a rumour for years, but who knows? Also if he abdicated the change of power may be easier for Prince Phillip. I wouldn't mind a Queen Mathilde  flirt

I think he should if he wants to; I admire how after sheparding the Netherlands through WWII, Queen Juliana ended up abdicating and not pushing herself beyond her limits.

William and Lupo: the real royal love match

« Reply #39 on: October 24, 2012, 09:25:23 pm »

I think the practice of abdication at an old age is a good thing in general.  But one of the downsides is that there are always rumours of it on those countries that do it.  Maybe it would be a good idea for the monarch concerned to indicate their likely decision years ahead,  say at 60,  65 and 70.  Obviously they would be free to change it at any time if circumstances change.  Eg Beatrix of the Netherlands seems happy to keep going since Friso's injury, but no one would mind her stepping down and taking it easy at her age.

IMO if King Albert feels it is the right time, he should do it, and if not, her should say so.  My Queen, QEII, has made it very clear she will die as monarch, so we all know what the plan is.  I would be extremely surprised if she abdicated, but I do wish she would slow down and have more private time now.
