The cake, but esp the Liz-figure with the "Me" sign, were outstanding! Whoever thought of the design has a great sense of humour imo thumbsup

Very different portraits of VERY different princes: Astonishingly realistic painting of the Duke at Windsor Castle is released as new image of Edward in a velvet jacket and tartan trousers emerges

Astonishingly realistic painting of Prince Philip captures the craggy character as he stands in Windsor Castle
His youngest child, Prince Edward, can be seen in a somewhat more eyecatching outfit wearing royal slippers
Stunning painting was by artist Ralph Heimans, who painted the Queen's portrait for her Diamond Jubilee

The portrait (I like it, like the one below too, by the same painter, Ralph Heimans, he does very nice paintings!)

"The beautiful painting captures the craggy character of the 96-year-old royal as he stands in the impressive Grand Corridor at Windsor Castle"

What an artist!  The DoE is certainly an imposing figure.  I thought it was a photograph.

Duke of Edinburgh said the arms race was ridiculous in letters to Lord Brockway
Prince Philip has for past 60 years been a passionate advocate of Armed Forces
Letters were to be closed until 2022 but now in National Archives, Kew, London

'Is that a terrorist?': Prince Philip makes risque gaffe as he points to a 'man with a beard' while meeting crowds at Sandringham

Prince Philip is accused of making a gaffe while meeting crowds at Sandringham
Duke, 96, cracked the edgy joke as he led procession of royals to church service
He was talking to Princess Anne when he spotted a man sporting a ginger beard
Prince pointed at him and turned to his Royal bodyguard before making the gag

Philip himself grew a beard during that 5 months tour (dramatized in the Crown Season 2). This latest Philip story called that to mind.

Depends on the beard... I like a bit of stubble of a "designer beard" on a man, but the trend has (of course) gone too far and now what I call "Jhadi beards" spy are the rage.. I *despise* those beards, and not because they look like Jhadi beards, but because they look unkempt and because a ton of bacteria gathers there and doesn't just hide the face, but almost half the whole man!

This below is the type of beard I mean, and this one looks fairly good, because it's groomed and grown quite evenly and not *that* long (but going there), many men who have beards this long have the same problem as women whose hair is too long (and not too well cared for): the ends become wispy, frail and look like they need a cut yesteryear

Can't blame Phil if the man in question had such a beard, there wasn't a clear pic of the man Cool

IMHO his comment was in poor taste considering the current terrorist. It's not a laughing matter, especially on a day London is being flooded with armed police as ISIS have threatened to "unleash hell in London on New Year's Eve." It's just about par for the course from a man who called Chinese slitty eyes on a state visit.

I know all about living in a high risk area and at times being stressed because of it and on watch a lot of the time, believe me, but honestly I had to laugh about it, if you don't laugh about it what else can you do? Reading this headline made me really laugh out loudly and even more so when I relied this to everyone in my house, people found it amusing. sigh

My dad sometimes had a beard when he came home from sea (Naval Officer). I hated it. I still *despise* beards now, not my thing at all.
I think I can see why he's now retired. I'm guessing most of his filters are now gone.
