Well  easter-think
As a history freak I find it very interesting! It's easy to see the parallels with Diana's story
As a royalty watcher.... not so interesting because her past doesn't matter nowadays anymore really.
Never the less thanks for the link karla thankyou Kiss

^So they are being scrutinized by people?! laundry They have to look good. That's their job. Other women have 3 jobs to feed their children and take care of the mortgage.
Besides it is only since the sixties that being slim is sexy and hot. Look at old paintings: Those women are all busty! Food was luxury. You ate it so you won't starve. There was no haute cuisine. No sugar or spice. Spice was soooo expensive like gold. Nobody would have thought to compensate their problems with an eating disorder. Unfortunately today with the new beauty image, even 13 year old girls have an eating disorder today. :( It is really a new problem I think. (I would have to google for proof, but I don't have the time right now)

Get the food ready Byechoc... I am picking up akasha in Belgium and them we'll drive to Portugal  BFF2

These are paintings from that time from Peter Paul Rubens who lived in late 16th century:

as I said before Sissi had an eating disorder and she lived way before the sixties  tehe maybe it was the only thing that they could control about her lives and so they obsessed over the food

after all they were no more than pawns in a more important games and if they didn't do the most important duty (give birth to a boy) their lives must have been hell

and since Louis XIV there was a much specialised cousine, when he reigned french food became renowned

ah spooky  there
you're invited as well of course!

hihi wouldn't it be fun if we could actually do this, come toghter for a nice dinner?

but back on topic!
i think eating disorders are of all times, it's not because a painter makes you chubby in a portrait, that you actually are!
after all in that time they painted by the ruling beauty image!
you know like they use photo shop now to mask little imperfections!
the painter would paint his model with a bit more flesh on the bone!
after all if the person who ordered the painting didn't like it, the artist wouldn't get payed!
so i think it's perfectly possible that she looks chubby but in reality was skin and bones!

Actually, she did do a lot of fasting and I have to wonder if it affected her fertility. She was once warned by the Pope himself to ease her religious devotions since she was so extreme that her fertility would be affected. I think that she was in some ways determined to self destruct in some unhealthy determination to be a martyr.
