Yeah, I would recommend watching the original first. I't a wonderful movie that's timeless, I watched it over Thanksgiving with nephews and niece and we had a great time!

The movie was an adaptation of an older play but I know what you mean, noting beat Julie Andrews as Maria.  Cool

^It's a good thing that this beautiful musical was resurrected, however inadequately, because it brought me back to the original and oh, how I enjoyed watching it again today.  On a personal note, I played Brigitta on the stage once upon a time and it was so much fun!

I've also discovered another awesome winter/Christmas kind of movie that's a true classic that I'd forgotten.  It's like being inside a snow globe.  "All This, and Heaven Too" with the late great Bette Davis and Charles Boyer.

Ah, you see, I didn't know it was a play.  The movie never gets old for me, I guess that's what makes it classic.

It's not a movie per se but a old and long B/W sketch: Dinner for one! laugh
It absolutely hilarious and they play it every year during the hol's.
Typical Brit humour, truly a must watch, love it

^That is a thoroughly charming movie.  The one with James Stewart.  Love it.

All the staples and regular ones for me.  Lately, we've watched Meet Me In St. Louis (where Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas song comes from) and All This And Heaven Too which is, for me, like a movie tucked inside a snow globe.  Oh! And Little Women.

I love The Bishop's wife too and Cary Grant was wonderful as Dudley. He should have received an Oscar for his work. And I don't mean the Lifetime Achievemnet award either.

And It's a Wonderful Life too with Jimmy Stewart.

And has anyone else noticed that the girl who plays Zuzu in It's a Wonderful Life also plays the daughter of David Niven and Loretta Young in The Bishop's wife and the young lad who plays the younger version of Jimmy Stewart (It's a Wonderful Life) also plays the leader of the gang in The Bishop's wife?
