Got my hair done in mahoganey black. [ I feel kind of sultry. Guess that is a good thing. easter-lol. As long as I can hold it up with my trusty chopsticks or paintbrushes. I'm happy. easter-lol.] Then read and read some more contemplating going on a long sea voyage in March or wait till June. Still haven't decided on that one. Hmm... easter-think

was watching the Military History Channel. The episode was on submarines and inventors. I was intrigued by these guys (had to read more about them) and their inventions like David Bushnell. He was an inventor of the first submarine used in combat (peddling exhaustively and with stealth like precision during the Revolutionary War) and while in Yale proved that gunpowder can explode under water. All leading up to torpedoes (Whitehead and Luppis) and weapons of today. Fascinating...

Enjoying old 1920's and 1930's songs from "Whispering' Jack Smith and Al Bowlly.
Below a bit of their biographies.

A 1928 song by "Whispering" Jack Smith. His "whispering" style of singing was a result of a World War I injury from poison gas that kept him from singing at full volume. He made the "whispering" style popular.
His terrible wife refused to put mark his grave and till this day it is unmarked in the Bronx.

Al Bowlly
died in during WWII during an air raid in April 1941.
On 17 April 1941, Bowlly and Messene had just given a performance at the Rex Cinema in Oxford Street, High Wycombe, now demolished. Both were offered the opportunity of an overnight stay in the town, but Bowlly opted to take the last train home to his flat at 32 Duke Street, Dukes Court, St James, London. His decision proved to be fatal, as he was killed by a Luftwaffe parachute mine that detonated outside his flat later that evening. His body appeared unmarked: although the massive explosion had not disfigured him, it had blown his bedroom door off its hinges and the impact against his head proved fatal. He was buried with other bombing victims in a mass grave at the Hanwell Cemetery (originally City of Westminster Cemetery), Uxbridge Road, Hanwell, London, where his name is spelled Albert Alex Bowlly.

Not doing anything right now, but later I am going to go listen to a guy speak who was at the "I Have a Dream" speech, and then tonight I am going to go to an 80's party at one of the local bars.

^^ I love Al Bowlly. My father said my grandmother used to listen to him on the radio before the war and was a huge fan too. I have a wonderful CD of his that I play a lot. Great old songs and a tremendous singer from another era.
