I went to the Norwegain Palace on May 17th and watched the parade and saw the Royal Family come out on the Palace Balcony and greet the crowds. Mette Marit is pretty in person, she looked much better this year than last year and Pr. Haakon is quite handsome.

The Queen looked nice too.

It's quite a day in Norway, the streets around the Palace are soooo packed, squeezing room only to walk, everyone walks down to the Palace after taking the tram to Johan's gata, and then disembarking, treking up to the Palace. It's hard to find a spot if you go after 9 am, but possible. I managed to work my way up close to the Palace by going through a park near the Palace grounds, following some Norwegians who know the shortcuts.

After parades  and the Royal Family greeting the crowds on the Balcony, the day is filled with eating Norwegian dishes and all the ladies who have them wear a local Norwegian dress, from whatever county or city in Norway their family orginated from. I quite enjoyed seeing all the dresses and asking Norwegian ladies which city their dress was from.

I have seen Norwegian dresses but I never knew they represented their county or city.   thumbsup
