cktracking over sale of Masai’s ancestral land
Masai told to leave historic homeland by end of the year so it can become a hunting reserve for the Dubai royal

Tanzania has been accused of reneging on its promise to 40,000 Masai pastoralists by going ahead with plans to evict them and turn their ancestral land into a reserve for the royal family of Dubai to hunt big game.

Activists celebrated last year when the government said it had backed down over a proposed 1,500 sq km “wildlife corridor” bordering the Serengeti national park that would serve a commercial hunting and safari company based in the United Arab Emirates.

Arabia's King Abdullah dies

Abdullah bin Abdulaziz was the fifth of his brothers to take the throne and became king in 2005, reports Caroline Hawley

Friday said his half brother, Salman, had become king.

Before the announcement, Saudi television cut to Koranic verses, which often signifies the death of a senior royal.

King Abdullah, who was said to be aged about 90, had been in hospital for several weeks suffering from a lung infection.

Abdullah came to the throne in 2005 but had suffered frequent bouts of ill health in recent years.

Saudi buries King Abdullah, Salman takes throne

Riyadh (AFP) - Saudi Arabia buried King Abdullah Friday as foreign leaders gathered in the capital for the funeral of the ruler of the world's top oil exporter and the spiritual home of Islam.
Abdullah, a cautious reformer who led his kingdom through a turbulent decade in a region shaken by the Arab Spring uprisings and Islamic extremism, died early Friday aged about 90.
He was replaced by his half-brother Salman, who moved quickly to consolidate his hold on power and vowed to maintain a steady course for the conservative kingdom.
Salman joined Gulf rulers and leaders including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for a funeral service at Riyadh's Imam Turki bin Abdullah mosque.

Saudi Arabia’s new king promises continuity after death of Abdullah
King Salman of Saudi Arabia signalled continuity at a time of turmoil in the Middle East on Friday – but paved the way for a new generation of royals to take power as his predecessor Abdullah was buried and his subjects swore their allegiance.

Salman, who is 79 and widely said to be in poor health, became king, as long expected, on the death of his half-brother, aged 90, in the early hours of the morning. The new crown prince and heir to the throne is Prince Muqrin, 69.

In a carefully-choreographed transition, Saudi media emphasised the king’s grandiose title of Guardian of the Two Holy Shrines – a reference to Mecca and Medina – to underscore his Muslim credentials as a key element of Saudi legitimacy.

The defiance of Jordan: Queen Rania leads thousands of protesters on the streets of Amman to honour 'Martyr Moaz' who was burned alive by ISIS

Queen Rania of Jordan led protests on the streets of the capital Amman this morning as thousands took to the streets after Friday prayers to urge King Abdullah II to step up airstrikes against the Islamic State to avenge the brutal murder of pilot Moaz al-Kasaesbeh.

Could never see wasty doing that, far too beneath her notice, I don´t think she is aware of anything outside the medd bubble to be honest.  Let´s face it, in her position, and wimpo as well, they did not even know who King Felipe was at the Belgian event in early August, and caught on camera asking who he was. Tells us everything we need to know, not even prepared for such a major event. Apart from anything else, how can you not know who the King of Spain is, jeez, not rocket science. Bit of homeworkd would not go amiss before they attend these events.

I thought it was really touching to see Queen Rania comfort the widow of the martyred pilot. There were genuine tears in her eyes.

I know. I also read stories that he was killed fighting with UAE special troops in Yemen.

Anyway, it is terribly said for his parents. I am not a parent myself, but I am pretty sure that having to bury a child is the worst thing for any parent, no matter what their profession or position in life.

^^ Uhhh... you think that's true? Because I was going more for the theory that says that he likes the sugary stuff too much. He was already not the heir because his lifestyle.

Though this is also the second heart attack in the family as his uncle (?) died from the same. It can happen for someone in the 30s but it's like the code for "we don't want to say the real cause".

I have an idea. The sheigh is said to love all of his children very much. the son who died under suspicious circumstances had killed a man. under the UAE laws - this is punishable by death and many in the Dubai had been voicing that the sheikh is treating his own son under different laws.

Rania looks so overdone, cannot put my finger on it but she looks weird since a long time ago.

She's in the pink! Queen Rania of Jordan is a blush beauty in a new official portrait to mark her 46th birthday

Queen Rania of Jordan has yet again proved why she's hailed as a style icon on the international stage in an elegant new portrait released to mark her 46th birthday.

The royal, who is married to King Abdullah bin al-Hussein celebrates her birthday tomorrow and, as is customary, has released a photo diary from events during the past year.

The latest image shows the Queen looking relaxed but chic in a pink pussy bow blouse and black pencil skirt.
