Team GB stars invited to meet Queen at Buckingham Palace party... and tracksuits are allowed

And the star-studded event will be followed by a huge Team GB stars invited to meet Queen at Buckingham Palace party... and tracksuits are allowed garden party in the summer of 2013.

Athletes will be joined by Gamesmaker volunteers, officials, members of the armed services and all those who made the Games such a success.

Prince William, Kate and Prince Harry, all cheerleaders and ambassadors for London 2012, will again meet Team GB superstars - and the people who worked behind the scenes.

Lord Coe, chair of the London Organising Committee, will also have his contribution recognised at the evening reception this month.

Team GB superstars Mo Farah, Jess Ennis and Sir Chris Hoy will join Paralympic heroes Sarah Storey, David Weir, Jonnie Peacock and Ellie Simmonds for the first time since unforgettable scenes at the spectacular parade in front of one million fans through London last month.

A source said: “The Queen is very proud of what the amazing athletes achieved in our wonderful summer of sport and wanted to personally thank them.

“It will be a very plush affair and there are a few athletes more than a little excited about the chance to see the inside of the Palace.

“It will be a fitting finale to a truly spectacular year of sporting success for Britain.”

The party, due to be held on October 23, starts at 6pm. Guests receive formal invitations from the Queen and Prince Phillip.

All athletes will be in the iconic Stella McCartney-designed Adidas tracksuits.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The reception this month is an opportunity for the Queen to say thank you to the medallists of 2012.

“It will be an informal evening drinks party held at the Palace for around 350 guests.

"The garden party in the summer will involve far greater numbers and recognise the work of all the people who made the Games possible, including the Gamesmakers and volunteers.”

I would certainly hope so!
I think that's a typo really
Personally I find the wordcombo of PH and PW and the term 'cheerleaders' in the same sentence kinda funny (I'm having some very weird images of hairy legs, pom-poms (sp?) and short dresses running in my head right now! easter-lol)

I'm not sure, but I think the reference to PH was to a garden party in summer 2013, when he will be back... but they don't usually talk about garden parties this far out... and it will be over one year after the Olympics.  Wierd.

As for the tracksuits, I think that's ok for the evening reception, I think it's been done before, but I don't like it for the garden party, which should be more formal IMO.

ohh you're right
I missed the 'garden party in summer 2013' bit.. by that time Harry should be long back thumbsup
so the athletes and co have the reception this month and they got an invite to the garden party next summer.
