What sort of country gives £1.2m benefits to an odious family like this? The drug-dealing dad, his 22 children (including an armed robber and a murderer) and state handouts that prove Britain's lost its marbles

Barbie’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue Causes a Stir Online

TWO familiar brands that have for decades been the targets of complaints about their depictions of women have joined forces for a promotional campaign that tells critics they are proudly “unapologetic” about who they are.

The brands are Barbie, sold by Mattel, and the annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. The campaign is centered on the 50th anniversary edition of the issue, which is to come out next Tuesday, and presents Barbie as a doll-size version of the magazine’s supermodels like Tyra Banks and Christie Brinkley, clad in a new version of the black-and-white swimsuit she wore when introduced in 1959.

“Unapologetic,” the theme of the campaign, is underlined by its use, with a hashtag in front, in social media like Twitter, as well as on a billboard in Times Square. “As a legend herself, and under constant criticism about her body and how she looks, posing in” the issue “gives Barbie and her fellow legends an opportunity to own who they are, celebrate what they have done and be #unapologetic,” Mattel said in a statement on Tuesday.

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/feb/19/tony-blair-rebekah-brooks-phone-hacking

Quote
Tony Blair advised Rebekah Brooks to launch a "Hutton style" inquiry into phone hacking at the News of the World at the height of the scandal over the issue, according to an email that has emerged at the Old Bailey trial.

The revelation emerged in an email that was read to the jury in the hacking trial on Wednesday, and followed what Brooks said was an hour-long phone call.

According to the email, sent the day after the News of the World's final issue and six days before Brooks was arrested, Blair also told her he was "available" to her and Rupert and James Murdoch as an "unofficial adviser" on a "between us" basis.

The advice was said to have been given on 11 July 2011 and contained in an email she sent at 4.20pm to James Murdoch, the then executive chairman of News International

Surrey Police interviewed more than 100 women who were at Duncroft Approved School in Staines in the 1970s.

The force said it was looking at the scale of Savile's abuse at the now-closed school and whether any employees knew about it at the time.

The summary will be looked at by the CPS before any full case file is sent.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "There are still further inquiries going on and there should be an update in the next few weeks."

A total of 214 sex offences have been recorded against Savile across the UK.

Operation Yewtree was launched in 2012 after it emerged the late television presenter had abused hundreds of young people and children over more than five decades.

Surrey Police said its own investigation, called Operation Outreach, involved only allegations relating to Duncroft School.

Now the CPS will look at the summary before it decides whether there is enough evidence to bring criminal charges against anyone else from the boarding school for disturbed girls.

In May 2007, Surrey Police investigated allegations that Savile abused girls at the school but the CPS found there was not enough evidence to proceed.

In October 2013, the force revealed it had interviewed former pupils at the school.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2574631/PR-guru-Max-Clifford-used-celebrity-contacts-bully-naive-young-girls-sex-used-office-sexual-fiefdom.html

Quote
Publicist Max Clifford would 'bully and manipulate' girls into sex acts in the 'sexual fiefdom' of his office by promising them Bond roles, modelling contracts or impersonating stars, a court heard today.

The PR guru, 70, is accused of molesting seven teenagers between 1966 and 1984, by taking advantage of their 'naivety' and eagerness to please him, jurors heard.

Opening their case at Southwark Crown Court the prosecution said he indecently assaulted 'starstruck' girls as young as 14 after name-dropping actors and singers like Julie Christie, Oliver Reed, and David Bowie.

Clifford also allegedly telephoned girls pretending to be celebrities, including Michael Winner, before pressuring them into sex acts.

Jurors heard he 'toyed' with them - treating them with 'contempt', telling some victims their assaults were auditions for the Bond film Octopussy, TV show Dynasty or some modelling work.

Pope Francis on Saturday named a woman molested by a priest as a child to be part of a core group to help the Catholic Church fight the clerical sexual abuse of minors that has haunted it for over two decades

The first eight members - four women and four men - hail from eight different countries and include Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley, former Polish Prime Minister Hanna Suchocka and Baroness Sheila Hollins, a British psychiatrist.

The victim is Marie Collins, who was abused in her native Ireland in the 1960s and has campaigned for the protection of children and for justice for victims of clerical pedophilia.

"Pope Francis has made clear that the Church must hold the protection of minors amongst her highest priorities," Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said in a statement.

Aid organisation Doctors Without Borders said an Ebola outbreak suspected of killing dozens in Guinea was an "unprecedented epidemic" as Liberia confirmed its first cases of the deadly contagion. Guinea's health ministry this year has reported 122 "suspicious cases" of viral haemorrhagic fever, including 78 deaths, with 22 of the samples taken from patients testing positive for the highly contagious tropical pathogen.

"We are facing an epidemic of a magnitude never before seen in terms of the distribution of cases in the country: Gueckedou, Macenta, Kissidougou, Nzerekore, and now Conakry," Mariano Lugli, the organisation's coordinator in the Guinean capital, said in a statement.

The group known by its initials in French MSF said by the end of the week it would have around 60 international field workers with experience in working on haemorrhagic fever divided between Conakry and the south-east of the country.

Its team includes doctors, nurses, epidemiologists, water and sanitation experts as well as anthropologists.

It's good but they said they killed these whales for "research".What I saw was the whales and dolphins are going to peoples plates over there. Now if they can also stop the killings of the dolphins with so much food in this world that's something you don't need inside your stomach.

ACA has a few good things going for it, but given that it's based off a failed health care system and doesn't allow for nationalized health insurance, it fails. As much as I don't like the ACA, I *despise* Glenn Beck more and LOVE watching him lose it.

Loved seeing him tuck tail and leave Fox. Happy day.

This is pretty sad. Child protective services is nothing more than militiamen without weapons (other than the power to steal children from people they do not like).

Report: Ebola Suspected In Europe: “Broken Through All Containment Efforts”

Quote
The outbreak of Ebola Virus in seven west African countries has broken through all containment efforts and is spreading like wildfire.  According to Christian Relief groups working in Guinea and Liberia, the number of confirmed infections jumped 15% in just the last 24 hours. In addition, 40 illegal alien migrant workers from the outbreak area, who came ashore in Pisa, Italy, are showing signs of Ebola infection and are being isolated in Pisa Italy because of fever and “conjunctivitis” (bloody around the eyes).  According to the World Health Organization, this strain of Ebola is entirely new and although it is close to the Zaire strain, it is different, thus accounting for false-negative test results . . . . . for weeks!

Quote
Those false-negative results meant people who were actually infected with Ebola, were returned to their families and neighborhoods to recover from what they believed was the Flu or a case of food poisoning, only to spread the Ebola further.

The result has been a complete loss of containment of this Ebola outbreak.

With the likely arrival of Ebola in Pisa, Italy, the European continent is now at severe risk.

Diner plans fundraiser after 'show more skin' post

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - After a customer suggested that servers at a West Virginia restaurant needed to "show more skin," the owner became offended and decided to do something about it.

Owner Daniel McCawley of Atomic Grill in Morgantown is donating all proceeds from the sale of loaded potato skins this holiday weekend to a West Virginia violent physical attack crisis center network.

McCawley, who opened the barbeque restaurant last June, said a customer made the anonymous suggestion in a now-deleted post on an online review site.

McCawley, who has a wife, a 12-year-old daughter and five sisters, said the post "just kind of hit home."

"I took some personal offense to it," he said.

Atomic Grill will offer a plate of four potato skins for $7 — two buffalo chicken-style and two pulled pork. Proceeds from sales Saturday through Monday will benefit the West Virginia Foundation for violent physical attack Information and Services, which has nine crisis centers across the state. McCawley suggested that donations also could be made directly to the foundation.
