It's the chance of a lifetime, making a pair of shoes for fashion icon Kate Middleton. For one lucky and talented design student, that dream will become a reality very soon.

As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Duchess of Cambridge will accompany Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh on a visit to Leicester's De Montford University (DMU) next week. Six students from DMU's Footwear Design degree program have been chosen as finalists for the design competition. They were chosen from more than 100 applicants by DMU lecturers based on their entries on what kind of shoe they will design for the duchess. The duchess will meet all six finalists and announce her favorite design during her visit. The winner will then make a pair of the shoes for the future Queen of England to wear. "When asked who their first commission was for at their first job interview they will be able to reply - the Duchess of Cambridge, the world's leading fashion icon," said Professor Dominic Shellard, Vice-Chancellor of De Montford University.

Some of the finalists' entries are certainly a departure from what Kate Middleton, known for her stylish yet conservative attire, wears in public. There are a lot of very high heels, fancy embellishments, and bright colors. She will most likely request that the winner tone down the height and flair a bit and add enough padding to support her feet during her long public engagements. One thing is definitely certain for the winner: the Duchess Effect will mean that he or she will get instant worldwide fame and be quickly propelled up the fashion design ladder.

She's done it, KF and other, it's ALL about her.  I'll be damned!!!!!

Yooper, we'll never be done with shoes when it comes to our dear Duchess Kate!

According to the DM even Harry has to consult her before deciding what to wear: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2110742/Has-Prince-Harry-taking-style-tips-Kate-Middleton-Suede-shoes-kick-fashion-frenzy.html

If HM were doing something like this, I would certainly be impressed, but this isn't about Kate, it's supposed to be about HM, not about KAte choosing who she will have design her a good pair of shoes.
