Money laundering probe puts spotlight on the £15 million sale of the Duke of York’s home

Quote
Sunninghill, made up of a house once nicknamed derisively Southyork for its resemblance to an American ranch home, and its five acres of grounds were purchased by the trust in June 2007, having been on sale for more than five years at a price of £12 million.
Despite the £15 million price tag, the house has been left empty ever since and is now apparently derelict. The Duke moved to Royal Lodge in Windsor, which remains his home.
The meeting at the Thai resort of Amanpuri, Phuket, between January 31 and February 5 2007 involved 18 people.
Among those at the meeting were the Duke of York’s close friend Miss Ashkenazi, a socialite and businesswoman, and Arvind Tiku, a wealthy Indian who is Mr Kulibayev’s business partner.
Other guests included Marianna Belchanskaya, a Russian lawyer, and Kairat Boranbayev chairman of the Russian-Kazak Oil company KazRosGaz, which is jointly owned by Kazakhstan and the Kremlin.
They were also joined by a mystery man, who stayed in Miss Ashkenazi’s private villa, who used the alias “John Smith” on the resort’s reservation record.
The Italian authorities are interested in the trust because of allegations of corrupt payments made by Italian firms to politicians in Kazazkhstan.

Why is he allowed to privately sell a property that was gifted by the Queen.  Not to mention the questionable sale!

Prince Andrew is a thoroughly unpleasant, arrogant man with some very dodgy 'acqaintainces' - and that's all I'm saying.

Ever since she brokered the controversial sale of his former marital home Sunninghill Park to her lover for £15 million — bizarrely at £3 million over the asking price — friends of Prince Andrew have urged him to distance himself from socialite Goga Ashkenazi.

However, judging from the list of sponsors for his charity abseil down the Shard in Central London today, Andrew’s friendship with the sultry Kazakhstani beauty seems as strong as ever: she has generously pledged £5,000  in sponsorship.

William and Lupo: the real royal love match

« Reply #6 on: September 04, 2012, 09:08:44 am »

I'm unsurprised.  He's capable of trying to justify anything as long as its "all in the name of charity".  I just find it immensely disappointing that what was intended to be a family home has fallen into disrepair and now looks like something out of the former Eastern Bloc.

In answer to a question above, I believe he used the proceeds from this sale to pay for renovations to the Royal Lodge so, in a way, the Queen's gift has been translated through into the value of the Lodge.  The right to live there will be passed on to Bea and Eug when he dies.

I think this is another woman, this one was rumoured to have had his child.

Maybe the one you mention is:

I'm guessing the four year old, because they named a married billionaire who is believed to be the father of this pregnancy.

This was a good comment, but of course would never happen with the windsors, so tight they squeak as they walk.

Concerned, Plymouth, about 7 hours ago
What a waste. As from Monday it is Law in Germany that empty second homes, or any property standing empty WILL be given to immigrants to live, this house would have been ideal.

However the house was unliveable already - it had been declared derelict some time ago and there were pictures from 2009 showing how much it was falling apart. It would have needed a lot of rebuilding work to make it safe for someone to live there and often when houses have deteriorated to the state it was in it is cheaper to demolish and start from scratch.

This is the DM report from 2009. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1153465/The-fall-house-York-Why-mansion-sold-Duke-mystery-15m-deal-gone-ruin.html

Later in 2009 there was talk of seizing it for housing for the homeless http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/exclusive-prince-andrews-15million-former-407390

Why they didn't do so then, I don't know - unless it was the fact that it would have taken so much money even then to make it liveable, or local objections, or the fact that it is in Windsor Great Park (thus on Crown land) I have no idea but it is six years since they did talk about doing it and did nothing then for some reason. There may have been legal reasons to do with the fact that it was private property as well having been sold by Andrew to the Kazakh businessman by then - who knows.

It is sad to see a building like that go to waste though but to deteriorate to that state in under 20 years also says it wasn't built very well in the first place.

^I don't think they wanted to keep it there at all.

But still that comment about the immigrants baffles me  blink It's private property they can do whatever they want with it.

The truth about Andrew's £15m house sale: As furore grows over Prince's links to corrupt Kazakh regime, we expose new details surrounding the mysterious sale of Prince's marital home to oligarch

Astonishing new details surrounding the mysterious sale of Prince Andrew’s marital home to a Kazakh oligarch are revealed today.
Leaked emails show the Prince was far more involved in the £15 million sale of Sunninghill Park than previously admitted.
And they also reveal that his staff went to great lengths to ensure the 2007 deal went through.
The Duke’s then aide, Amanda Thirsk, discussed interior design and security arrangements with the wealthy Kazakhs.
She even tried to secure a deal for oligarch Timur Kulibayev to lease two fields next to the mansion from the Crown Estate for a ‘peppercorn rent’.
The emails also reveal an extraordinary attempt by Andrew to arrange for Coutts, the Queen’s bank, to take Kulibayev on as a client.
The disclosures follow Saturday’s revelations in the Mail that Andrew helped a Greek sewage company and a Swiss finance house pursue a £385 million contract in Kazakhstan

Hopefully QE won't get him out of this one as she did with the *nasty* scandal.  Good on the DM for refusing to be bullied in to not publishing it by saying it was in the public's interest to do so.

Yes, India, wouldn't be at all surprised if the viper had something to do with it to take the heat off her criminal lot.
