that's what I always ask myself!

I would love to go to christies or other auction house too. It must be amazing!!

I'm still a bit sad that I couldn't visit the jewels exhibition of Liz Taylor.

Now Friday the euro lottery have a jackpot of 53m €!  Shocked (FYI that's 69m$ or 43m£ ppl)
What would I do with that amount of money?? easter-think  sigh
Set up a meet & greet weekend in London for all the RG members, my treat  BFF2 (first class ticket's to London and five star luxury hotel included of course Cool)
Then fly to SD and hire Yooper to figure out a way to set up a non-profit foundation a la Sentenbale but more global not just for African projects.
and then hmm... dontknow

So if by Monday you gal's get a PM from me saying 'get your butt on a plane to London ASAP' you'll know why  tehe

Awww, I love the idea of a RG reunion!!!

I have to confess, this whole jewelry thing... my grandma's dad used to own a jewelry store for a while, so my grandma, to this day, is a huge fan of big, fancy jewels. She wears opulent rings and necklaces and we even call certain things "grandma style" because it's her signature style by now.

And well, when I was little I used to collect pretty stones. Then I moved to quartz. Then I became an amateur gemologist. Then I moved to other stones.

So now, every once in a while I find great deals for loose stones, precious and semi-precious, online. I always look for designs I can use them for. I've learned that it's a lot cheaper to have your own stuff made by a jeweler than to have something that already exists.
Once you know your way around those shops, you can find great pieces of jewelry for virtually nothing.

Thank goodness for the Internet and my growing jewelry collection.

Quote
The parure belonged to a previous Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha: Princess Victoria Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein (1885-1970), who married Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, in 1905. Today, we see the tiara on another Saxe-Coburg and Gotha lady: Kelly, the American-born wife of Hubertus, the current Hereditary Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (he is Victoria Adelaide's great-grandson). And we do get to see it, unlike many other gems from some of the non-reigning families out there. Kelly has worn it to a few occasions in recent years, including the weddings of both Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine of Sweden (one of Victoria Adelaide's children was Princess Sibylla, the mother of King Carl Gustaf).

it us so sad that the Romanov jewels have largely disappeared - there are photos showing them being cut down so we must suspect the jewels were sold.  Such works of art destroyed.

There is a necklace that is alleged to be from a gift given by Charlemagne to his wife that is in the possession of the French (I think).  It supposedly contains a relic - a piece of the cross I think within a huge stone.  I have been searching for it - but no luck yet.  Shall post when I find it.

The iron crown of Lombardy - supposedly made in part from a nail from Christ's crucifixion for Constantine I.  It may have been the crown the Pope put in Charlemagne's head on that momentous occasion.  Has quite a history.

The Hapsburg Imperial Cross - very ancient was actually taken into battle and is one of the most important artifacts left from the Holy Roman Empire.  Contains a huge chunk of the alleged cross.

I saw this at a Vienna museum - stunningly beautiful - encrusted with jewels and pearls- pictures do it no credit.  Just amazing.

ah I found it - the talisman of Charlemagne supposedly given to his wife when they married it was found with his body when his burial site was dug up.
