Road closure for Buntingford street party could cost £1,000
The town is hosting a street party for the marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton on Friday April 29, but Herts Highways are considering charging £1,005 as a processing cost.

John Warren, of the Buntingford Town Centre and Management team, put the application for street closure in. He said: “We’ve had an agreement with Herts Highways for the last 10 years we could close the road up to four times a year.

“We’ve always run the Classic Car Show and the late night shopping on the understanding there would be no charge.

The application form has changed some time earlier this year but we’ve been told the road closure will be looked at for its merits.”

It is understood the route of applications through the relevant authorities has now changed and that is why asking for a payment is being considered.

It will be applied if it is felt there is a need for a diversion route, wider traffic management and potential impact on the area.

The closure will only reach up as far as Norfolk Close, lessening the diversion usually required for other events held in the High Street.
