female members of the Imperial family can establish their own Imperial branches after marriage to commoners.

I actually agree with this; to be frank, there are so few males and there is a sincere need to supply the Imperial family with males and in all reality, there are too many females being cut out. Second, it's not like the females are going to be marrying men who aren't part of the elite anyway. Chances are, the men marrying these women would be members of the families of the people who work for the dreaded IHA anyway.

by chance I logged onto this side:
http://www.hellomagazine.com/royalty/2013031411592/japans-prince-hisahito-graduates-kindergarten/
where Pc. Hisahito graduates from Kindergarten and will join Gakushuin Primary School. So far everything's well, but on all four photos his head is tilted onto his left hemisphere. This can't be conicidence. Wether he has troubles with a malformed spine or his left hemisphere in total is distorted, I can't make out.
Be what it may be, the risks that the Japanese Imperial Dynasty will come to an end by him are very high!

Not only did she make a significant impact in meeting IOC members in the 24 hours before the vote, but her speech demonstrated just the kind of humble gratitude to the Olympic movement that the IOC love.

She told the members: “I am more than pleased that it has fallen to me to personally convey our heartfelt thanks for the IOC’s assistance after the tsunami. This is the first time a member of the Imperial family has addressed you, and I dare to hope that our paths may cross again.”

Aged 60, Hisako became fluent in English as a child, accompanying her father, the Japanese industrialist Shigejiro Tottori, on his trips to Britain. After studying anthropology and archaeology at Cambridge, she began working as an interpreter for the Imperial family, and met her future husband Prince Takamado Norihito at a drinks party at the Canadian embassy.

out there....damn she looks great for being 60 but that's just me

well done Princess...now just hope that everything goes well in the next 7 years

Akiko von Mikasa – Zusammenbruch am Flughafen
http://www.bild.de/unterhaltung/royals/royals/sorge-um-akiko-von-mikasa-nach-zusammenbruch-33711528.bild.html

Great concern in the Japanese Imperial House! Princess Akiko of Mikasa collapsed at Haneda airport in Tokyo.

During the welcome ceremony for Emperor Akihito (79) and Empress Michiko have just returned from a visit to India, the Princess slumped suddenly collapsed and fell to the ground.

The princess was rushed away, the source does not provide any information about her condition but I’m guess she is okay

Masako, her husband said in his birthday press conference last week, “has strived to take up as much activities as possible.” But that doesn't mean she has completely recovered. “I hope that she will start with things she can do and proceed slowly,” the Crown Prince said. More foreign trips would help, Naruhito suggested and they might also benefit Princess Aiko. Unlike their European counterparts who travel freely and at will, the imperial family is restricted in its travel and must ask for permission before leaving the country.

Procession of horse-drawn carriages at the Ceremony of the Presentation of Credentials

About the horse-drawn carriages

During the Ceremony of the Presentation of Credentials, ceremonial horse-drawn carriages welcome newly appointed ambassadors to Japan and convey them from the Meiji Seimei Kan Building to the Imperial Palace South Porch.

Only a few countries worldwide, among them the United Kingdom and Spain, use horse-drawn carriages to welcome newly appointed ambassadors. In Japan, many ambassadors express a preference for the carriages over a conventional motorcade, attesting to the success of the ceremony in promoting international goodwill.

The ceremonial carriages used to welcome ambassadors are drawn by two horses and known as zagyoshiki. Most were manufactured from the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Showa period and have artistic value.

Processions of horse-drawn carriages are also used in Imperial Household ceremonies such as the accession of the Emperor to the throne and weddings of members of the Imperial Family.

^Let's see:  She's the grand daughter of the Emperor, daughter of the Prince, completed a Masters Degree, dresses, acts and behaves modestly and is praised for her intelligence by her professors.  And knows how to wear flat shoes in a professional way!

On what premise does she in any way, shape or form, compare to Kate Middleton?  That's an insult to an obviously dedicated and well-mannered genuine princess who avoided the spotlight.

Poor girl. I wonder how the court is trying to use her. ^ She can't do anything but avoid spotlight. They wouldn't let her do anything else.

The article does have a one massive flaw..Princess Kako is not second in line for the throne. Women have no right on the throne in Japan. And if they had, she would be way down the line after her uncle the Crown Prince, his daughter, her own father Nakishino, her younger brother and her older sister.

Japanese Princess Mako set to marry 'Prince of the Sea'

Japan's Princess Mako is giving up her royal status -- all in the name of love.

The groom-to-be is a prince himself ... of sorts.
The Imperial Household tells CNN plans are underway for the 25-year-old princess, granddaughter of Emperor Akihito, to become engaged to Kei Komuro, also 25, a law firm worker and graduate student who once starred in a tourism campaign as "Prince of the Sea."
The couple met five years ago as students at the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan's national broadcaster NHK reported.
It was while in university that Komuro played the "Prince of the Sea" in a beach tourism campaign for the city of Fujisawa, south of Tokyo.

Giving up her royal status is something that would have happened in the event of any marriage anyway. All the princesses are groomed for a mainstream life and I do believe that she will in fact be incredibly happy. It'll be a completely dignified wedding and she'll go on to a freer life.
