By next month I wager that the economy will be worse and prices will be soaring through the roof, worse than they are right now.

After just finishing my food and home shopping and not being able to afford half the stuff I needed that is a very depressing thought  hiss

I think there are a few other things subtly coming into play. Well perhaps not so subtly as the first thing is the internet. People's attitudes have changed over the past 30 years and we can exchange views and information over the internet.

Back at the 1981 wedding we believed what we were told and our society was still fairly deferential. Now we have travelled and exchanged ideas and information so much and, of course, we have also seen that the Royals have feet of clay and are just as fallible (if not more fallible) than their citizens.

The other point is that the wartime generation who were solidly wedded to King and country has almost passed away. This generation, particularly the women, would support a Royal Wedding to the nth degree and buy memorabilia and hold parties. Sadly, they are either long gone or extremely elderly. The world has just changed so much.

As each threat comes out, or the situation gets worse, I am more than sure that costs will rise, triggering more resentment. This is a vicious cycle.

And while the economy was in a recession, it was a light one, nothing like this, plus Diana was just plain dazzling.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Marriage to Cost Britain a Lot

The cost of the event is expected to be more than 20 Million Pounds and one of the reasons for it is that the police officers would go double time. When thousands of police officers go double time that would mean that a lot of money is spent unnecessarily!

In fact, the royals could have just chosen a different date, instead of wasting so much of money when the Britain has already faced a lot of hardships due to the economic crises.

Slap in the face if you ask me.  flaunting wealth in such a way while there are people in their country as well as many others suffering trying not to loose their homes, putting food on their table.

So now the press is admitting it's a costly-pricey deal why IMO because the people are pissed off and are commenting about it and voicing their opinions loudly.Of course the Royals right don't seem to be listening but in the end they will be the losers when the people eventually get sick of them!

Definately a slap in the face if you ask me.

Forgive my newly developed cynicism, but the RF never listens until AFTER the public gets up in arms and politicians or Court staff literally have to BEG or threaten to resign to get the RF going and paying attention. The RF always refuses to listen and never learns because they have the courtiers working themselves to death cleaning up their messes.

They do seem to do the same mistakes over and over. They think IMO in their arrogant ways that they will always be in a position of power and no one can tell them what to do because of that fact.Hmm,wait until the sleeping tiger wakes up and bites them all in their AXX.with Lazy Waity part of the RF and Midds on board it won't be too long.

Have just posted this in the Yorks forum but it gives an interesting insight into the way the Royals are brought up and disciplined (or not as the case may be). Max Hastings was editor of the DT for many years and knows what he's talking about.
