There will be a commonwealth service on march 12th. With Meghan attending with the rest of the family.

Mods, please move my post in the engagement thread regarding this event here. Thanks.

IMO, this is solely for the appeasement of some commonwealth countries because she’s been shown over and over to be very unsuitable for the job at hand. The comments are scathing and basically saying that the monarchy will end upon the queen’s death.

Total overkill to have a fiance (Meg) attend first the foundation thing in such a capacity and now join the family, incl Liz. Same for the Xmas walk. Frankly, it's weird. Though on the other hand should give her a taste for the real thing and what it is like being part of the firm. Guess it has its advantage too.

Meghan Markle Just Announced Her Biggest Royal Date Yet — with the Queen!
Quote
It is thought that Meghan, alongside Harry, will have a big role to play in a Commonwealth organization when she joins the family. She addressed that commitment at the Royal Foundation Forum earlier this week, and previously addressed her interest in learning more about the Commonwealth during her engagement interview.

This is quite crazy. Has anyone notified the queen that this trolop will be in attendance?  :cookie:

^^ Yes, the Queen always knows which members of the family, and future members, are going to be present at official engagements, whether she herself is present or not.

^^ Really looks like it.... Do they do themes though? I'm not aware of that but it would be one hell of a conincidence for them all to have picked navy (& white).
Harry seems to wear a navy suit with a purple tie (purple like Liz's outfit), Bill's tie seems to be in the area of blurple too, and Charles's...?

No more Harry next to Waity, she can't flirt with him anymore! Must be the worst service for her so far, now there's emptiness in the space next to her :sigh:

Meg next to Randy Andy  :tehe:

Meg looks good, indeed, the white coat I can't help but think is a "I'm the bride" choice...

Marvellous and impressive service, as usual. They really do this well, and WA is a great place to hold it. A very large turnout of senior royals as well.

I thought Meghan looked very nice. Loved the coat, didn't mind the hat and the shoes are fine. The Queen looked very well, and the colour she wore suited her. I've never seen a shade or colour that she doesn't suit.

Title: Re: Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2018
Post by: Rosella on March 12, 2018, 06:18:40 pm
Harry raised his eyebrows at Meghan as if in a private joke and she giggled for about three seconds. This service is a celebratory occasion for the Commonwealth, the great family of nations, not particularly solemn.

Plus I've seen lots of these services over the years on all sorts of occasions and have seen several royals whispering to each other during them, smiling, grinning and having a joke. I've even seen grins on the balcony at Remembrance Day among some of the Royal women.

Title: Re: Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2018
Post by: Kuei Fei on March 12, 2018, 06:33:58 pm
Does the BRF take any event seriously?
Having a laugh at a Remembrance service and only putting on a serious face during the 'official' moments; laughing on the balcony during balcony appearances; life for the BRF is comign across as one big laugh, even when it's the worst possible time. When someone is performing and putting their all into that performance, it deserves the respect of a receptive audience and quiet congregation. This isn't making them relatable or down to earth, it is making them adolescent.

Title: Re: Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2018
Post by: Rosella on March 12, 2018, 06:44:18 pm
I was just giving examples. Royals do not roar with laughter during services for hours on end. Everything is momentary, a smile, a grin, a whisper. The royal family is human, they are not Easter Island statues. And we don't know what was going on in those few moments in a service of over an hour. Harry rolled his eyes and Meghan tittered for about two seconds. Then it was finished. Meghan maintained her dignity throughout that service, (which was a celebration), as did the whole royal family, and she chatted afterwards with the children then they went off to a reception.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake engagements celebrating the Commonwealth on 22 March. They will meet athletes supported by @TeamSportsAid, some of whom aim to compete in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and help to prepare a Commonwealth Big Lunch at @StLukesTrust.

Why do they always get given the lightweight, fluffy engagements?  Pretty obvious they are not deemed fit for anything more serious, doubt they ever will be, too busy being selfish and each doing their own thing.

Glowing Kate Middleton steps out for last engagement before maternity leave

Prince William and Kate are expecting their royal baby in April

Prince William recently revealed that his third child is due "any day now", and on Thursday, the Duke and his wife stepped out for what was Kate's last engagement before maternity leave. The couple spent the day in London celebrating the Commonwealth, ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in April.

Kate, who is due next month, was in high spirits as she arrived at Olympic Park. The Duchess sported a healthy pregnancy glow, showing off her baby bump in black trousers and a patterned Hobbs top. She beat the chill with a cream coat by one of her favourite brands, Goat. The royals' first engagement was attending a SportsAid event; SportsAid charity helps young British sportsmen and women who aspire to be the country's next Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth and world champions.

Still in her skinny jeans! Kate slips into a pre-pregnancy top and coat for her final royal duties before maternity leave - as Wills tries his hand at wheelchair basketball

She's weeks away from giving birth to her third child, but the Duchess of Cambridge is still keeping the fashion stakes high.

The royal, 36, stepped out in skinny jeans this morning, teamed with a cream coat by Goat which she wore prior to her pregnancy and a non-maternity top from Hobbs, for a day of engagements celebrating the Commonwealth with Prince William.

It's Kate's last day of official duties before giving birth to her third child next month with a Kensington Palace spokesperson confirming: 'Today's public engagements by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be Her Royal Highness's last before starting her maternity leave.'

You know, she doesn't need maternity leave and she does not up fashion stakes by wearing skinny jeans. I'm sick of seeing them and they do not make a woman look fashionable or classy in my honest viewpoint. She has no business taking several months off since she won't be raising the kids and she has not been doing anything arduous that other women do.

^ I dont get it. Do these skinny jeans have a stretch front like maternity pants usually do? Aren't her legs and ankles swelling a bit? And fluids in her stomach  (not to mention a BABY! :-), and overall a generaal feeling of discomfort and quietly coaxing the baby to come out now so she can have her body back like most woman do? And theHG? Wouldn't this set that off or at least make her dizzy, dehaydrated, nauseous?  Sorry, Quinny, but you are aan epic fail! And I dont trust that woman either!

And she hasn't shown she is dizzy in those shoes or at all in her pregnancy? I wonder if anyone has seen her make a beeline for the loo at all during at least ONE engagement. And does she take time to sit every so often? You know pregnant women usually have to take a breather every noww and then...

PS and so KM/Quinny/whomever else went from: My tatas have grown magically overnight so see I'm pregnant to Oops my bad, the belly is what has magically grown overnight, not the tatas after all so see I'm pregnant so do take a picture of my 'baby bump' to skinny jeans.... and please don't forget how ill KM is she has HG rememberso she can't possibly work to how many engagements in how many weeks? This is stupid. And utterly unbelievable. Quinny is a fool.

Just wow on K's outfit today. A non-pregnant woman would have trouble peeling herself out of those, why would a pregnant woman then put these on? And seriously so far in, 3rd pregnancy, and are these really non-maternity clothes all? Kate is definitely not naturally of skinny build, her uni day pics prove that, and like daft Vic Beckham the equally daft K must be starving herself, even in pregnancy? Again, 3rd pregnancy and fitting into this? When even studies now say that a 3rd pregnancy definitely blows your body to shyte even if the previous two haven't. I don't get it. At all.
Just frikkin wow. :sly:

I don't know if this is the proper thread so mods feel free to move if necessary.

I just skimmed an article which said QEII is "giving away her powers" and that PC is expected to be king. I always believed the Queen when she said she would never abdicate and would in fact be queen for life. Does anyone know if there has been an official comment from Buck House? Is it just more of the same old nonsense articles? Thanks. I am immensely disappointed in Her Majesty but I do hope she is well and will remain on her throne nonetheless.  :flower:

Do you have a link to the article?

I would imagine if there was any such decision the announcement would be headline news in every news outlet. I have seen nothing to suggest anything more than the Queen handing over some more of her responsibilities to Charles but keeping most of the monarch's responsibilities with herself. Some of the more tiring duties have been being handed over for the past two decades or so.

If the Queen intended to abdicate the BBC and every other news outlet in the English speaking world would have already broadcast that news. She won't, IMO.

Some of the more tiring duties have been being handed over for the past two decades or so.

Here is the link I simply skimmed. I suppose I should have read it first!  :tehe: good to know she isn't abdicating.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-queen-is-handing-her-powers-away-is-king-charles-ready (https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-queen-is-handing-her-powers-away-is-king-charles-ready)

There are always articles claiming HM will abdicate but quite a lot since last December 2017 claiming she will ask for the Regency Act (I admit I know precious little about it) for PC to become king in all but name. Royal reporter Robert Jobson is making the rounds now with the King Charles Regency thingy. I never liked Jobson. He seems a smarmy hanger-on and not a very truthful one at that. Yuck.

If I were HM, I would be fed up with how Charles is ALWAYS hankering after that crown and always demanding more and more and more out of her.

Liz is not going to abdicate, Charles wil definitely be king only once she dies. An abdication would I think be the shock of the century.
Anyway, there's been talk for a while that Chuck is handling more and more duties and Liz is giving lots of stuff over to him. Handling of estates (in the country), (limited!) state affairs, planning family stuff and also prepping for his time: e.g. the "slimmed down monarchy", which can be seem at balcony appearances.

So, Liz (& Phil!) is handing over some stuff to Chuck, but an abdication is out of the question.

Exactly. The monarchy is in a state of transition from HM to Charles and they are both aware of what is happening and how. This is not Charles demanding more and more but a joint decision by them of what he could be doing to ease her workload and what she can't or won't give up.

There will only be a Regency if she is incapable of carrying out her duties - the constitutional ones. She doesn't have to appear in public to do those.

There are some things, for instance, that are already either having to change or won't be happening for the foreseeable future - outgoing State Visits for instance. The Queen won't travel, except maybe to a very close European country - so no more outgoing State Visits during her reign but for many countries that also means they won't do an incoming State Visit either so ... either they have to allow Charles to formally undertake official State Visits of Britain doesn't do any for the next decade or so (and by then Charles will be nearing 80 and the situation could very well be that he can't do them anyway and so Britain stops doing State Visits ... and the tiara watchers will go crazy as that is the only time the royals seem to wear them ...) Other countries allow a representative to both undertake and receive State visits e.g. the GG of Australia so maybe that is an area where Charles can take over - the outgoing State Visit, while the Queen continues to host incoming ones.

^ That too. One more sign of Liz stepping back so to say, which I just remembered, is that she is now spending more time in Windsor than in London. That's changed fairly recently, some months ago. She's now for 3 days in London and the other 4 (Friday - Monday I think, definitely Saturdays & Sundays) in Windsor.

All the problems with older age that also make Liz step back, make Charles step back too (some in due time). That's the downside when you have kind of one age group only at the top...

In the back of Charles' mind, he may think about the drawback to the Queen abdicating. It would lead to a push for HIM to abdicate for Will when he gets on the throne. Once the Queen sets this pattern up, he would be more vulnerable to being "pushed" to abdicate.

^ That's true, but imo people would be more favourable to Chuck and less likely to push him off the throne (abdication or republic) if Liz were to abdicate and signal her full support to Chuck, like Beatrix & Willem-Alexander did. Also Liz would still be around, physically, and people would continue to put on a good face for her. Of course there are no guarantees, Chuck has messed up way way too much and could be that once he steps on the throne, whichever way, that he'll get a revolt.

I've always said Chuck did a good job in his role and has earned respect for that (which most people don't know about and don't care), but his private life eclipses any good (professional) deed and Bower's book tbh also diminished the professional respect he had from me greatly. Chuck is just too much and too messed up to tolerate. Shocking man. He might to a good job as king, who knows, but his character & behaviour are unbearable.

His court will probably be like the Sun King's Louis IV's at Versaille. Charles is related to him via the Stuart line. And I can imagine the perks Charles lackeys will get during his reign, like Fawcett for instance.

The york princess will attend the CHOGM banquet their firts tiara even I hope if true they will be loaned tiaras
T
he real question is do you think the York Princesses have the Royal Family Orders? Traditonally the Queen gives them to working royal woman of the family, however, its usually up the monarch of that era wether  some get them or not, in the past even children of TRBF have recieved them.  We don’t know they actually have RFO because they never attended events like these for all we know they could have one.  Hey, a gal can dream. I always thought that Beatrice would look good in the emralds nudge, nudge, * wink.

Title: Re: Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2018

No, I don't think the Yorkies have the Family Order. If either of them had received it at any time you can be sure that Fergie blabbermouth would have let that slip in conversation with others or in Tweets. She's very proud of her daughters and wouldn't have been able to keep quiet. The Queen is very sparing with the Family Order, unlike her father and grandfather, and tempting and lovely though it would be to have that on the York princesses chests when we know Waitey doesn't have one, don't think it has happened. Incidentally, I'm not sure that they will have tiaras for the CHOGM dinner.

Title: Re: Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2018
Post by: meememe on April 12, 2018, 05:14:56 am
The Queen has given her RFO to royal woman she thinks deserves at the appropriate time e.g. Princess Alexandra was only 15 in 1952 when she was given it. The Princess Royal was given it while still a teenager and before starting 'full-time' royal duties in 1969 (she turned 20 in 1970).

I can see the Queen giving it to her royal granddaughters before her granddaughters-in-law. We won't know if they were given it any earlier than this event but if they don't have it then then they may never get it, which would be sad for them not to have their grandmother's order. It would also, I suspect, lead to them never getting any such order due to Charles and William not wanting to be doing anything for the Firm (scared they may outdo Kate in the work department I suspect)

Meghan Markle In Altuzarra – CHOGM London 2018

[...]

I love the dress, but that blazer was so unnecessary.

Even if she was required to wear it as some to add some formality to her look, she should’ve worn it properly as it’s too structured to be slung over the shoulders successfully and comes off looking awkward and bulky.

The crossbody bag feels too informal. This was a meeting at the Commonwealth with delegates. Not brunch on Solane Square with your gal pals.

[...]

http://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2018/04/18/meghan-markle-altuzarra-chogm-london-2018/

My sentiments exactly. This is such a miss. The blazer slung over the shoulders looked absolutely dreadful, esp from behind. Like she was hiding a hunchback or some weird contraption underneath. The pic belowe illustrates perfectly why this 80s throwback blazer with padded shoulders has to be worn as it is intended to - properly and not "I'm too kool for skool coz I'm Megsy."
http://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Meghan-Markle-In-Altuzarra-CHOGM-London-2018.jpg
Her whole outfit, the jewellery, it all just screams "informal" and is just not fit for purpose.

Don't even get me started on Eugenie today.

PS Not to mention overpriced. Throwing so much money at sth and looking like this.. smh! The dress is cute for brunch or whatever, perfectly put in the blog post, but still shockingly overpriced for a dungarees inspired casual dress!!

The Queen treats world leaders to stunning display of pomp and pageantry at Buckingham Palace as she tells them it is her 'sincere wish' they pick Prince Charles as leader of the Commonwealth

Heads of state and dignitaries arrived at Buckingham Palace ahead of a summit for Commonwealth nations
The Queen, Prince Charles and Theresa May were among those to speak inside the palace's grand ballroom
More than 100 soldiers from the Coldstream Guards carried flags of the Commonwealth's 53 member states
During the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister thanked the Queen for her devotion to the Commonwealth

I would've chosen this as the dress I wore to the event. It fits into that niché of casual enough depending on how you style the accesories but classy enough to look polished near delegats.

I hope this is all in the right threads, as it's all commonwealth stuff.

This dress is good, though as per protocol black is a no-no which everyone seems to ignore anyway. I like the dress and it's affordable (266 GBP, not heinously expensive and then cherry on top, inappropriate and/ or fugly).

Charles gets the nod: Prince WILL be next Head of the Commonwealth as group's leaders agree he should succeed the Queen

The Queen said last night it was her 'sincere wish' her son should take over from her as she turns 92 tomorrow
Leaders of 53 states are meeting at Windsor Castle today to make final decision on Prince of Wales' role
Sources have said that the world leaders agree that he should get the job with official announcement later
Some critics had urged Commonwealth to choose a foreign leader or rotate job around member countries
Her Majesty's call has helped Charles' case with Justin Trudeau among leaders also backing him for the job

Why is it shocking?

It was totally expected.

Most of the leaders had already come out and said that they supported him in to take over from his mother as the figurehead Head of the Commonwealth. In Australia, for instance, he had the support of both sides of politics to have this position - even though the leaders of both sides would like Australia to be a republic.

Perhaps it was a deliberate ploy to force their hand into picking Charles..

Odd but approved by at least the British government as the only speech she ever gives that isn't approved it the Christmas Address.

I suspect it was an attempt by Britain to keep the image of the 'British' Commonwealth alive even though the term 'British' was removed years ago. Her speech smacked of appealing to the Commonwealth to return to trading with Britain as we did before they chose the EEC over us but now, with Brexit, they won't back what they had. The sop was that she could then appeal to make Charles Head afterwards - but I notice they didn't go so far as to make in hereditary so William isn't guaranteed this position. Therefore in 20 or so years no doubt Charles will have to make the same appeal on behalf of his son.
