Title: Christmas 2017
Post by: Stephanie on December 08, 2017, 04:53:05 pm
Apparently the Mansons will be stealing HM's guests while the Viper will be imposing Pimpa on poor Harry while there's still time!

Meghan and Kate "BFFs"? I suppose the adage is true, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"   :tehe:

This all seems very odd.  Does anyone know who Harry normally spends Christmas with?  Maybe it's just me but, it seems awfully sad for Charles if the Middletons commandeer both of his sons and his grandchildren on Christmas Day.

Thanks in advance.

Nobody knows who occupies what room at Sandringham or whether Harry sometimes stays at Anmer if there's an overflow, a choice between a staff bedroom near dripping pipes!  (Sandringham can get a little cramped!) It's never been published officially, though the media has been saying that Harry does stay at Anmer for Xmas ever since the Cambridges moved in! I doubt he's there when the Middletons are, but that's just my opinion.

Hmmm. . . Kate and Meggles.   Well, on the one hand, Meggles might steamroll Kate and completely take over leaving Kate like a wilted prune.   On the other hand, Meggles' strong personality might be good for Kate and rub off on her a bit.   Kate obviously needs someone to lead her; maybe Meggles will be her new handler, leaving Carole free to find a resolution for the rest of James' life. . . . .  :bored:

Has she joined the church or is this just another pap walk?  Seems inappropriate if she hasn’t become a part of the church at least for HM’s rep.

Revealed: The surprising gift the Queen and Prince Philip give to their 1,500 staff for Christmas (and it comes from TESCO)

The Queen gives each member of her 1,500 staff a Christmas pudding
Tradition dates back to her grandfather, George V  and her father George VI
Switched to Tesco puddings instead of Fortnum & Mason to cut costs

This was news around 2000 when she changed for F&M's to Tescos to save money but the DM likes to trot it out every so often as news. I love how the DM recycles news for 10, 20, 30, 40 and even 50 years ago and claims it is 'news' when it was originally reported back when it happened to begin with.

A Christmas pudding from the grocery store?  How tacky.  What’s that worth — about $10?

Title: Re: Christmas 2017
Post by: meememe on December 16, 2017, 08:02:52 am
The 907g pudding is 8 pounds which considering there are 1500 of them equals 12,000 pounds.

The same size pudding at F&M is 39.95 pounds which for 1500 equals 59,925 pounds

There does seem to be quite a saving there. The Queen changed from one to the other when she had to reduce expenses in the late 90s.

Disgustingly stingy. Tesco is a basic UK supermarket. At the very least she could buy them a Waitrose Christmas pudding. They stock a Duchy originals version!!

Title: Re: Christmas 2017
Post by: HRHOlya on December 16, 2017, 12:57:39 pm
^ Cut out Waitrose as middleman and get it straight from the duchy, would cut costs even further and might be cheaper than Tesco's then.
Just not sure whether that would be "okay", as they'd basically promote their own business, but imo it shouldn't be a problem.

To be fair, in tests by professional gourmets (not sure what to call them!) and in labs the "high priced" stuff regularly fails compared to the "cheap" stuff. Not always, mind, as at times you do get what you pay for, but often enough to not be an awful snob.
Eg Aldi's choc with hazelnuts turned out to be of higher quality than Milka (kind of Germany's Cadbury's - same devil behind them Mondelez - formerly Kraft Foods) and even Lindt! More nuts, less cheap fat as filler and fewer to none of the questionable additives...

Why does HM resent paying a decent wage; that is the point of the large subsidies, right?

Title: Re: Christmas 2017
Post by: meememe on December 16, 2017, 10:30:23 pm
HM pays the wage that is standard when the extras such as accommodation, food, clothes and utilities are factored in. If she paid double what she does pay many of these people would be worse off as the cost of living in London is very high so they would have to live a long way out and have to travel to work etc.

I have said it before but I will try again - I have friends who worked themselves, and now their grandchildren are working at BP (the children did as well). Because they didn't have to spend money on day to day expenses such as rent, utilities, food, transport they were able to save quite a lot during their time working there so that when they had to move out - when she was pregnant - they were able to pay cash for their London home and their children and now grandchildren all own accommodation in London that they rent out giving them even more income - all because they work for the Queen at BP and don't waste their money as many people do.

Title: Re: Christmas 2017
Post by: Akasha 85 on December 17, 2017, 12:34:59 am
Yup with the wage you get from bp about the only thing you have to pay for are sigarettes i think :tehe:

Rent, three meals a day, clothing, electric bill, water, gas, health insurance, transport, cable and even phone and internet are al covered by BP.
You do the math: after you substract all those costs of your wage, how much have you got left?
I bet it a lot less then bp staff. :cookie:

I think about the only thing that is not covered is sigarettes/pub visit/cinema/books/day at the spa.
The type of things that are not eccentiel to the job. Thats what they get the wages for, its like pocket money for grown ups! lol

I am tickled by the fact that the Self-Proclaimed Queen's Favorite a/k/a Sophie Rhys-Jones Wessex, is not mentioned.   She must be irate.

So, she wore a blue dress to Remembrance Day to stand out right before the engagement announcement. What will she do on the walk to church on Christmas Day, hmmmm?  Plunging neckline and pushup bra?  Oh, how fun it will be!!    :flower:

A "transparent", see-thru blouse?  Who advised this to attend the Queen's event?  And short sleeves?  I'm no prude but it seems more evening wear regardless if whether it's lined and not very in tune with the point of the event.  Oh, whatever.  I just want a dime for every time she shoves her hair behind her ears all day long.

Boy, has she got a lot to learn.

Don't forget a crushed bouillon cube in your shoe!  Old actor trick to get dogs to come and "love" you.

^Really?  Out in an hour with coats on/off and nibbles time included?  Where's your hat, what's your hurry thing?  Maybe that's the norm?  HM doesn't need all those people clammoring around for longer than 15 minutes, frankly, but it takes herding time of at least 20 minutes to just get everybody out of their cars and in the door, greet, blah blah blah.

Title: Re: Christmas 2017
Post by: HRH Tiana of NOLA on December 20, 2017, 06:37:18 pm
There's a video on Instagram showing them leaving and it seemed like Harry was trying to get the heck out of dodge. Considering this is a lunch, not a cocktail reception, and there's a minimum of 20 people in attendance. I would think this affair would be 2-3 hours.

1 hour is strangely short. Even a small family gathering, say 5 people, and 1h is a joke. Esp for a special gathering like Xmas lunch. Come on! And then this at BP, with this many people, and who knows how many courses...  ??? :-

Title: Re: Christmas 2017
Post by: meememe on December 20, 2017, 11:17:47 pm
The entire event from entry of the Queen until she leaves is about 45 minutes so an hour for senior royals to be there is reasonable - out of car, into room, say hello to a few people, eat, leave - simple.

The Queen's day is timed to the utmost in terms of minutes and so allowing 45 minutes for this event is all she can spare. Others could spare longer but she can't.

Often these rooms are also used for multiple events on the same day (not all of which make it into the CC) so after the lunch it would need to be cleared and then set up for the next function.

^^ Honestly I find it weird. I don't think Liz was ever quite that busy and especially not anymore at her age.
That short of a gathering to me is like "we have to do it, let's just get through it and cross it off the to-do list". It was always said that Liz likes to get her family together and has this lunch to get everyone for one afternoon, but really 45-60 mins feels more like an obligatory curtesy call.

No way is Lizzy that dead busy, esp at a time in the year when most businesses pipe down anyway. I get that rooms are used for many things even during one day, but come on, one of the "biggest palaces in Europe" and they only have about 1h for lunch to spare because the cleaning crew comes in at exactly 14:00 and at 14:30 is the award ceremony for the order of sycophants and all must be cleared and only that one room is available! Sorry, but no! :sigh:

Title: Re: Christmas 2017
Post by: DuchessChandelier on December 21, 2017, 02:34:45 pm
Maybe the older they get, the more it is in liquid form?  :dontknow: "Hello, nice to see you" "Likewise, off with the coats", then bottoms up with the champagne, kids eat mash and peas, adults slurp a soup made out of liquified turkey and throw in a couple of Dubonnet & Gin while pulling Christmas crackers with silly hats on. How long did that take...? After a short conversation of "how are you" "nothing special going on at the moment" (at this point the nannies have already herded the kids away), they all shove off in their cars. Sounds very unlikely but I can't explain the illogical timings unless there's a time warp in the palace.

Title: Re: Christmas 2017
Post by: YooperModerator on December 21, 2017, 02:44:44 pm
^It doesn't add up.  It is, however, the exact amount of time to get out of your car, get in, stow your stuff, greet a person or two, not like what you see and reverse the process out.  And, having another engagement to rush off to doesn't wash with me.  That's rude to the Queen unless she ordered it and I see no signs of Harry and Sparkles having to open a bridge or something anywhere after this.  Quite odd.

Sorry. Not buying it. If leaving after an hour was par for the course with this particular event, we’d have seen it done in years past and wouldn’t suddenly find it odd.

This has been the normal length of this lunch for years 45 - 60 minutes. It is about how long most of these events last. It is just that this year the media are making a big deal of it because of Meghan but it has been known for years that they leave that quickly.

It is in, greet a few people - those you don't see all that often, so the Kent's greeting the Chattos for instance, a quick bite to eat - remember it is lunch so not the full Christmas trimmings and handing over presents but not opening them and then out.

^You and many others are correct.  She's getting major shade from the US fashionistas on the radio and TV.  "It's not the red carpet!"  And "hideous", "cheap taste", "only new money would buy that at that price", "how gauche for the occasion", "fame hungry", "embarrassing", "fugly".  Nobody with any solid fashion sense approves.  And, you're right, not even from the flashier parts of California.

So, we are not alone and it does not reflect our country's stance on lasting style.  I've got a feeling I'm going to be saying that a lot.

The big response, tho, about the engagement photo spread is that he looks in love but uncomfortable and she only loves herself.  Harry loves Meghan, Meghan loves Meghan.

You stupid fool, Harry.  It's sad, really.

She may have money but certainly no class.

There's no way 20 (?) people can say Hello to each other, be introduced to Sparkles and eat lunch in an hour or less. We know the timings of arrivals and departures are true because the press were there, as they are each year. This cheque was definitely quicker.

As for  Princess Pushy's brooch...at best it's tactless but may be her way of making a point to Sparkles.  She and Harry can winge to the media  and play the race card but Pushy wobtvtepltvtob any notice of them

It's brooch-gate!!

"Princess Michael, who is married to The Queen’s cousin, has said she is "very sorry and distressed" following accusations of racism after she was pictured wearing a blackamoor broach to #BuckinghamPalace The brooch will now be ‘retired’ to avoid a repeat of the situation"

^Outrage over this is something people had better get used to.  This won’t be the last time and RACIST ROYALS is splashed over every news story now with Sparkles, as predicted, as the victim.  And so it begins.

Good luck, UK, with this US bulls$&@ and good riddance, Sparkles.

^ You said a mouthful, sister.   However, I have faith in the brutal British press that they will dampen the  :BS: if it starts moving into USA depths.   So, I don't think Meggles will get a lot of traction from that.

In any event, Meggles is going to be SUCH a disaster as a royal, that race will be the last thing on anyone's mind.

Oh, I can't wait!     :tehe:

^That’s true.  The British press will not stand for it the way they do here.  The problem is, this stupid story is what the US media pounced on in headlines.  CNN is fanning themselves over the “outrage” and “horror” MM must be experiencing.  And thy will continue to shine a light on every teensy tiniest perceived slight about Sparkle’s skin color and beat the good people of the UK and the BRF with it whenever possible.  You know how that works here, Miss H.  All too disgustingly well.

I didn’t think it would happen so soon but somewhere in all of these threads this was one of my concerns with the US media against the “much-ignorant” Brits.  It’s ridiculous.

Some representative of this country she’s gonna be.  Never.  Not in a thousand years.

^ All true, Yooper.   However, we Yanks just love us a princess.   And if Meggles does not meet our expectations of a fairy tale princess -- excuse me while I  lol   then race will not be an issue.   Meggles will be roasted and toasted here as well as there.   Meggles has no base or popularity here.  She is not beloved.   Grace Kelly was a known and popular movie star, classic beauty, a lady [yes, yes, but people's sex lives were not talked about in those days], and so the Yanks rooted for her.   Won't happen here for Meggles.

Bless her heart . . . .  :hi:

As far as CNN, MSNBC, etc., fanning the flames, yes, for a while, but other news will take over, and again, she will be a disaster, and comments on these media outlets' blogs will be so negative, they will -- eventually -- give it up.

Meanwhile, we enjoy the show.  Have I mentioned I cannot wait for Monday's church walk?

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh lead the Royal Family into St. Mary Magdalene Church at Sandringham for Christmas Eve service

Prince Philip, 96, led the royals at St. Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate this morning
Queen arrived closely behind for the special Christmas Eve service, wearing an elegant pale blue skirt-suit
Her Majesty, 91, snuggled under a warm blanket in her royal car as she sat beside the Countess of Wessex
Princess Beatrice looked stylish in a £1,995 plum coat by Burberry, while younger sister Eugenie opted for a steel-grey coat with matching headwear as they walked through the Sandringham grounds
Security around the Sandringham estate was extra-tight, with police frisking watching members of the public

Happy Christmas everyone!    :flower:  :hi:  :loveshower:
Princess Anne  Win   :worship:   has the best style of the day!   :o  I never thought of writing this,a good  surprise.
coat + hat + brooch =    :flirt:

Eugenie  -  beret ok / coat dislike , looks like rag fabrics ''glued''
Beatrice -   No
Sofhie - i like , but the 'place is wrong' .
Autumn - i like coat  / but not fascinator

Kate : I like 'festive' coat  , but the hat not
Meghan : I like the color (trench - beret) for her.   and  I like that she wore a discreet coat.
She still does not know how to wear a hat - fascinator-beret or what is the best style for her.
she has no height (not too high) for this style (trench coat long and boots long)

 She 'held' the gloves, because she has to sampling the ring  :tehe:  precious.
:sigh: after 'ensure' the photos, she put on the gloves

^^it's the royl family and the British and commonwealth countrie's problem as this freak will be representing them/us. She's no impulse control because she believes he a star and so bloody fabulous and loved by all that she can do whatever she wants.
Harry's cracking me up with him looking misserable still aroud her and keeping his hands in his pocket. He looks like he made a deal with the devil instead of being a man in love as he claims to be.  :bored:  One good thing about how the press is going overboard with the glowing headlines and how the royal family apeat to accept her is that when this goes belly-up, her and her so called supporters can't accuse the royal family of not being nice towards her.
this freakshow will only drag and keep the royal family in the trashy tabloid press and do the very thing that Harry told the youth not to do; stay on their phones and circulate egative stuff on the internet. there's nothing positive about her and Harry that'll inspire leadership in the youth that harry said he'd like to ue his position for, so unless she's going to end up being an example for them of things not to do, then he hould labled a hypercrite and leave the young people alone.
I miss the likable, helpful, happy-go-lucky Harry, so although I'm losing hope, I still want her to be thrown to the British press so we'll be free of her posing, preening and acting an arse at others expense.  :cookie:

As Yooper said in another thread I was surprised at how small Meghan is. Kate, if well dressed, can easily overpower her. How tall can she be

I could think that Meghan is trying to not look too fashionable but she chose her best colours and a fashion bag so this is probably the best she had. And it's not quite there. I thought she would look way better and even Kate doing a Diana impression had a better outfit.

Also she probably hungs on Harry because she is super insecure among his family and he is her lifejacket.

Windsor2: I really think that Harry is in love with her! But he was not able so far to see the true Meghan!! She is 36 and smart enough to make her game, he is only naive because he did not understand that she was manipulative!! But one day after all the bugs and butterflies in his belly are gone he is going to realize this, and it will be soon enough... and on that day you will see a lot...

I'd love to know what the topic of the service was. She looked a bit scared/worried to me when she was seen coming out of the church and trying to make conversatin with Wills and Waity. Wills barely looked at her and she never removed her hand from Harry's arm even though he was buttoning up his coat. He must feel really special to know he has his very own limpet now.  :cookie:

IMO, she has lost that argument now regarding the royal family as they've bent oer backwards and seem to be treating her better than Waity was when she became Will's fiancé.

I dunno if that's really a welcome. The photo was in the furtherest point it could be. On a separate table, almost hidden behind a sofa, and next to the picture of Camilla and Charles. Camilla is also a divorcee and was considered most unsuitable for several years. It doesn't matter if there is no picture of William and Kate - there probably was in the past, and now there are pics of the children in the most prominent place.

"Meghan Markle wore a hat designed by Philip Treacy this morning at Sandringham in Norfolk."
https://www.instagram.com/p/BdJFv2IhXcI/?taken-by=philiptreacy

The hat is awful. Awful colour and looks like the top part of a hazelnut.
I like the coat, but it being beige coloured it came across as a bit blah, esp as she was decked out in all brown :- That was too frikkin much brown.
I like that she was warmly dressed and I like that she had a proper handbag, even though I found the handbag ugly just like the hat.
And she's turned into ring flasher n°2. No gloves on way to church with ring prominently featured clasping H
Her cheeks looked chipmunk like, either she contoured and it turnt out awful, or she's fiddled with her face.

Kate looked remarkably well dressed next to M, but still I found the coat too colourful and distracting, too short (as usual) and the hat was so-so. Can't believe for one second that she was warm dressed like that. Forgot she is pregnant tbh. Face looks much better filled out, but she still looks older than her years, she's inflicited permanent damage at this point.

Louise has grown! wow! Liz & Phil are doing quite well for their age.

I have watched the video several times and she is more interested in getting W&K to engage in conversation that she turned away from Harry while he was speaking to her so that she could pay attention to W&K. Curious to know what Harry said to elicit her single word response "yes"accompanied by a look of irritation as she stared straight ahead. A couple of times, her mask fell and she appeared petrified and unsure of herself.

Could she have looked any more unattractive?   Rhetorical question.   No, she looked drab and unappealing.

As far as her nose . . . well, it is apparent that in between the engagement announcement and yesterday, Meggles had some work done.  She looks so drawn up and plastic, it makes her look older.

^I think the queen has a rule about kids not coming to church until they are a certain age.

^ For crying out loud, and then they wonder why they are seen to be as cold as fish
As I always say, in their culture children are still to be seen, but no heard. :sly:

I agree with Miss Hathaway on Markles’ nose job.  It now looks remarkably like Harry’s nose in profile.  Initially I quite liked her, but the veneer is wearing off.  Her constant literal grasping makes Kate look like an independent woman of strength.

Lately I remain so thoroughly astounded at the lack of skill set among the young royals!  The focus of my family has always been creativity, passion for history, music, art, philosophy, and creating with our own hands.  The “fab four” are like the premise of the TV show Seinfeld:  they are about NOTHING.

Kate is channeling Diana the early years. I like hats better than fascinators.

I'm so sorry, I know it's not nice but the 10K comments on DM about her tongue out are hilarious. She's dethroned as princess pushy and sparkle. She's no longer poo emoji hat. She's now called sh#thead. Come to think of it, she brought this on herself.

^ That many :- wow!  :o
The sticking the tongue out bit was beyond dumb though. She's nearing 40 and with a dynasty that demands decorum, what the heck was she thinking? She's not there for entertainment, shytes and giggles. Even with normal people, my granny always hated people sticking their tongues out and Murkles is too old to still be into sticking hers out for fun, you grow up eventually ffs! Doesn't look like she was licking her lips (the pics anyway, haven't seen any vid of gif of it), even if she was, she was wearing lipstick which usually keeps lips moist for a long while (does so for me, unless you wear super matte stuff, which she wasn't) and even then I hope that at least by now she's learnt that they always look for your worst shots to publish.

I don't know about a 'rule' or anything but the first time I can find an image of William going to church on Christmas Day was 1987 when he would have been 5 so I think we should see George next year.

Of course Louise and James were older - James only made his second appearance I think this year aged 10.

Maybe it depends on the child or the parents one personal preferences. Maybe George was being stroppy on Christmas morning and so they thought it better not to take him as well as the fact that it would have been Meghan's first Christmas with the family and this therefore allowed Harry a chance to be in the limelight with his fiance whereas if they had taken George many would argue that they did that to take away the coverage of Meghan and so undermine Harry.

She has to be careful mugging when cameras are around.I hope Meghan did not order "matching noses" with Harry. Harry's nose in profile is like his great Uncle the Duke of Windsor's.

Megs really does think she's cute, doesn't she?

Happy New Year, Ma'am! The Queen bids farewell to 2017 by attending church at Sandringham with her family (but there's no sign of Harry and Meghan)

Sophie is wearing what she should have wore last week  :bored:

^^
She never would have done that though. For Sophie, it's bad enough being 'eclipsed' by the mediocrity called KM who is married to the next but one Monarch, but to be eclipsed by MM too?

That would never happen. She need the publicity for her own ego boost.

And it's a gorgeous coat too. But seriously you're right Alexandrine. She should have worn that coat just last week.

As much of an angry ice queen Sophie is, I much prefer her to Waity and MEdia.

^Harry sure looks scruffy in the video.  Wonder why there’s no “Harry Alone At Church” articles.

Hope the gent is ok, too.  Why do people do this?  Elderly?  In the cold?  For them???  Crazy.

Kate is not really "showing" much considering the baby is arriving in April.  and a few tabs speculated she would have twins The DM continues to call her Pregnant Kate which seems to be odd because I think it is well known she is pregnant.
