$5 and a box of cookies says she makes herself the center of attention during this engagement and plays "spot the camera" better than Waity.

she's going to do an over the top diva pose, legs splayed.

If she sees children she's going to go in for hugs.

she's going to wave like a loon.

at the end she will pat Harry on the back and tell him he's done a good job.

^She greeted the dignitaries before Harry had a chance to.  Is that how that works?  The handbag is too much.  It's all too much, including the coat.

^ I think Meghan learns quickly, and she will, including protocol. She's only newly engaged and commentators are giving her a lot of kudos for getting out there within a week of her engagement. And people were very very pleased to see them both. You could see it in their faces.

#meghanmarkle’s bag is from a small British designer called Strathberry. Mini tote in tri colour £495. This will be great for them! #MeghanEffect

I do like the bag for day events it's better then the clutch which fits evening events

The problem with the bag is that she cannot give the hand to people.

Also Kate did events the first two weeks of her engagement if I am not wrong.

It was December 10th 2010, three weeks after the engagement for Kate, not four days after like this. Meghan eventually handed the bag to an aide. She probably won't bring one in future!

The narcissism oozes from her pores.   Blah.  And her hair is no better than Kate's.   Parted in the middle, plastered to the top of her head, the ends getting in her face.  This look wasn't flattering in the 70s and it isn't 45 years later.

I'm loving the comments on the DM such as:

Finally she has fans! Literally a nobody actress that could go to the Starbucks in West Hollywood and not be noticed is getting her glory!

She just can't stop touching him , even when they are inside the building!. She looks like she's holding on for dear life when she holds his hand and then clamps her other hand on his mid fore arm! I would have kept the handbag in the car. I think it would have been safe there... *wink*

Speaking of that handbag, thinking about her handbag and Kate’s clutch, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d rather the lady bring neither unless she’s the Queen’s age and wants to get her Sofia Petrillo on. What could possibly be in these things that they’d need and that they couldn’t get someone else to hold for them, anyway? I can’t think of one thing.

If she'd been the super cool person we're supposed to buy into, she would've worn a cross body and broken another tradition.

Oh, and not clinging to Harry every 5 seconds.  That'd be a tad more Independent, Strong, Militant Female.   :cookie:

Long time i dont post but just heard the news about this engagement and had to come to say how happy i am  :bouncy:

From most comments in most places a lot of people disaprove this women as a royal wife but to me shes perfect honestlly!Since day one i liked her and though she would be perfect for the role so i couldnt be happier with this announcement. It really brough something for people to talk about and judging how happy harry looks i couldnt be happier for him!!

Seeing her today just proved to me why i really think shes a star on the making.Shes beautiful, elegant, well mannered, articulate and knows how to deal with public and attention! It seems to me this ones i a winner and has it all and will be very popular.Shell be a great princess and a prize to this familly.Shes not perfect and has a lot to learn but i think shell do a great job and bring a lot of good things for the RF and Britain and why not say the wolrd as were living in caos right now.Its always good to have nice people trying to help and use theyre image for the good. She may be ambitious but as long as she uses it for the good i dont have an issue with it.

I was positivelly surprised with how many people there were in the crowd and how they seemed so excited to see them.Acording to many Prince Harry is not as popular as he was and he and his future wife are garbage hated by everyone...Not really what im seeing.People love them and i do too.My fav royal couple already! Both look so happy and genuinelly in love.Cant wait for this wedding and the events to come. :loveshower:

I was anyway  surprised with how fast this event was scheduled anyway.I think at leats a couple of weeks for people to kinda of firm the idea of the engagement and then ok for events.Too soon. But she didnt disapointed at all.She was perfect!!!

I didnt liked much of her looks so far.The engagement one was a loss in y opinion.Would be great for any other event but not for the engament annpuncement.I hated that white coat and i though it was too politician wife look. But i give her kudos for keeping her style and i dont think she will chance honestlly.Thats how she is and im glad shes not giving in for critics to change as i find her style amazing!!!

This look today is ok.I like the coat but is too big for her.The boots just not my thing. Now i do love the outfit.Very chic and elegant. The hair looks amazing! The bag to me is a mistake i mean ...It seemed that she only took the bag to promote the brand and thats one of the things i think she will have a problem to deal with in years to come but maybe she will learn the hard way that RF is not a thing to comercialize...its a role and thats it...I think she will learn quick for good or for bad....well see...

Lol yooper I was excited because I thought she was wearing trousers.  I know that sometimes Anne and Sophie wear them but they are no usual.

I like the coat but the rest of the outfit is dowdy.

Title: Re: FIRST EVENT for Meghan: Harry & Meghan in Nottingham December 1

I like the overall outfit for the simple reason that she dressed appropriately for the occasion, weather and age and status. No flashing, freezing or looking like a loon. Though in videos I found her interaction a bit disingenuous, Hollywood-esuqe, the "omg really? thank you sooo much!! awe!!" type of face if you know what I mean. And she stuck out the left hand quite a bit and clung to H.

Going in front of H and esp greeting dignitaries before him is a big no-no, esp as she's not yet married in, but I'll give her loads of passes. First engagement and appropriately dressed, and already she's done well tbh.

The handbag.. Well I do like that it's not a clutch (nicely mixing between clutches and bags is best imo, though K usually has a handbag which an aide carries and she takes the clutch, works I guess by the "bag in bag" principle), a bit unhandy for greeting crowds, but I can totally look past that.

I'd like to see her wear trouser often too. Break away from the skirts and sillyness.

In a general way i like her style and her choices so far.Could be better but its ok to me.She gives me a mix between Rania and Letizia vibes.I like it.I do hope she wears trousers.Well see.

I confess the bag is an issue to me as well not only coz it just doesnt fit the ocasion i mean how can she greet people while holding a bad but also coz it did passes me the vibe she only took it to promote the brand.Marketing.Thats not god in any way.JMO.Also its weird coz i think were so used to see the others royals dressing and with the whole tights, cluch combo that when we see something diferent we automatically criticize. It dont look bad anyway just not practical for me.

I wouldnt noticed the greeting protocol thing unless people told me as im not aware of such stuff but i agree is a mistake and i think she will learn with time, lessons, training and especially critics.

^Which football?  If she means our football, no it isn't.  Baseball is.  What a dumb thing to say especially with the NFL's PR problems and division right now.

If it's U.K. Football, what does she really know about it?  Gag.

^ I think Meghan was talking about soccer, the world's number one sport and incredibly popular in Britain of course. Both William and Harry are rugby and soccer mad. I can imagine Harry watching soccer matches on TV at Nott Cott and talking about it quite a bit, so some outline of it would be picked up by Meghan.

Kate was photographed in St Pancras - there's a daily mail article about it - and obv called the paps to try and divert some of the attention away from Megs and Harry.

I like Meghan's rapport with the public, and she looks lovely.

Kate looked smug and haggard on her first engagement http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/02/24/article-1360259-0D580875000005DC-392_634x519.jpg

COFFEE HOUSE
Meghan Markle has rescued her prince

Of all the interesting combinations which sexual geopolitics has come up with, that of the American girl and the English man is one of the most enduring, giving a saucy spin to the phrase ‘Special Relationship.’

It started with cold hard economics when the second half of the 19th century saw the creation of the American billionaire – Vanderbilt and his railways, Carnegie and his steel, Singer and his sewing machines. The daughters of such men became known as The Dollar Princesses; girls who came to cold old England bringing million-dollar dowries to reboot ruined stately homes in exchange for the one thing money couldn’t buy them in the brave New World – a title.

By the end of the century, a quarter of the House of Lords had American conjugal connections and such unions had injected around twenty-five billion dollars into the British economy as well as contributing to the bloodlines of such eminent Britons as Winston Churchill and Diana, Princess of Wales.

The enchantment proved mutual even after new money and old houses ceased to be part of the sexual exchange rate. When I was a teenage reporter on the English music press in the late 1970s, my unprepossessing male colleagues would return in a state of sexual stupefaction from work trips to the USA and when they finally re-acquired the gift of speech would report – somewhat disbelievingly, to give them credit – that American girls ‘couldn’t get enough of it’ upon hearing their accents, no matter what class or region; just the fact of their Englishness was enough. And this has been replayed, variously, centre stage throughout recent history in the stories of Edward and Mrs Simpson (infamy), Paul McCartney and Linda Eastman (true romance), Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen (tragedy), Guy Ritchie and Madonna (comedy) and Russell Brand and Katy Perry (farce).

I'm actually surprised by her reception with the public, people seem way more excited over meg than kate....can she keep it up?
sure she's happy to bend over and pick up gloves for other lowly humans right now, after all, a prince and a ring are at stake. but when, one wonders, was the last time meg ever performed such a service for her fellow humans? it's all exciting now, she got what she wanted, but will it last? There are still TBTSB to contend with.  ;)

I just watched the video (I admit I didn't make it to the end) and MM showed just how common she really is. She is a run of the mill, common as muck girl from the states and it really showed today. She is more middle of the road than uptown or princess quality. It isn't going to get much better than this, folks. In fact, her performance was comparable to her acting ability. She was cringeworthy.

It is one thing to be happy, in love and smily face. PH seemed to be anyway (?). This performance of hers was quite another thing altogether and she was loving it much too much and you could see a stark contrast between her and the way PH handled things. That is not good and esp not for a prince in the House of Windsor. She walked the Hollywood red carpet today and that does not translate to a proper royal walkabout.

The best thing was the outfit (close to what I said she would wear) although a more tapered skirt would have looked better. She needs to stop touching her head and her hair. I personally like the idea of wearing a headscarf on a windy day. They can be tied around the neck or draped across the shoulders and fixed with a brooch if necessary when it isn't very windy.

It's the snob in me but with Sparkle you can tell she just doesn't have the "It" she should have for this role. It is what one would call professionalism that can't be taught. It is muted elegance, a calm serenity and she never will have it. It just isn't encoded in her DNA. She is a common American girl who appears to be caught up in the delirium of the Disney princess fantasy.

I also find her fake and phony and not all kosher. I do believe the poster who said she was known as a Harry Hunter. I would cut her slack for being new to this lifestyle and for not having been raised with the understanding of the upper classes or how she is supposed to behave in such circumstances as I assume most people would but only if I truly believed she is there honourably but I don't.

This is MO and to each their own. I will still be shocked if this marriage actually takes place. If it does i truly believe they will be headed for divorce and PH wil be one angry ginger.

The press is giving it to her with their very unflattering pictures on the British newspapers. Scroll down and see how manic she looks. These pictures plus the coat that looked like a straight jacket is painting the picture that she's off her head/mental.  :cookie:  Also the articles about her just ditching people and places without looking back also contributes to the idea that she's as cold and ditached from reality, imo.
Harry looks like he was using an acting technique called mirroring. He takes his cue from Mehgan and mirrors what she does. This gives her the feeling that she's liked and in sync with him. That gives Mehgan the impression that they're good together and she'll continue to live out the fantasy that she's so well loved by him and the British people. I wonder if she took something valuable away from the Aids talk or she was concentrating on where the cameras were and hitting her angles that would make flattering pictures.  :cookie:

^Everything about her screams phony to me. I like Harry and I want him to be happy but nothing about this one sits right with me.

It's the Meghan effect! £455 Scottish-designed handbag Prince Harry's fiancee carried on her first royal engagement is an instant sell-out
Quote
A handbag, made by a small Scottish label, has now sold out after Prince Harry's future wife chose to carry the fashion item on her first royal engagement.
Meghan carried a £455 Strathberry tri-colour leather midi tote with dual top handles during the couple's visit to Nottingham on Friday.
A Strathberry spokeswoman said: 'We are thrilled and honoured to see Meghan Markle carrying our Strathberry midi tote in tri-colour burgundy/navy/vanilla.
Meghan also flew the flag for Canada, where she had lived until recently, in a navy, military-inspired number by Mackage that has previously been seen on the wife of Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Sophie.
Embracing her new base, the skirt is from British brand Joseph coming in at £595, while her suede boots are from that staple of the British high street, Kurt Geiger.
The actress finished her ensemble with a pair of elegant black suede heeled boots by Kurt Geiger, a change from the court shoes royal fans are used to seeing on the Duchess of Cambridge.

^ Can that many people in England afford to pay £455 for a handbag right now? I findd it hard to believe all of these women are spending outlandish amounts of money to be just like KM, Sparkle, wtc...

There’s only been one thing worn by a Royal that I considered buying. It was the gray sweater/coat that Kate wore in Canada. When I found out it was $700, it became less appealing.

One of the reasons why I can never believe these "item sold completely out" stories (XY-bla-effect) is that the things are rather expensive. Who can drop 500 dollars/ pounds/ euros just like that frivolously on an item some "celebrity" or "royal" wore? Fans are usually very young or very old. Apart from that many of the things K wears are old collections, so of course sold out.
I think it's all a pile of manufactured horse manure to gain publicity for the companies and the people carrying it get it for free in exchange for the publicity (the old deal, we all know it; and we all know that the Cambs take freebies, they've been busted).

I'm going to come off of the sidelines for a moment just to speak my peace then back to the seafood low (country) boil & gumbo.                                              First things first, I'm an African American woman from the state of Louisiana (with a Caucasian dad) so how  am I perceived by the world vs everyone else is different. I knew I had  always told to study harder, get better grades , pay attention to traffic signs while driving,  obey  the law,  and Always Put Your Best Foot Forward.  So throughout my life middle school until present day some people take  a 50 minute glance and determine  I am being fake or having motives while  there is none.  She's the daughter of a woman who by all means appears to have her feet planted firmly on the ground (and they are close )
And they're gonna make it. (it's the happiest & proudest I've seen him in a while )
p.s. when  i'm nervous at a business  function  i introduce myself to people in the room :sob: :sob:

Scottish family handbag firm feels the ‘Meghan effect’ as Strathberry orders soar
Quote
When Leeanne Hundleby decided, on impulse, to send Meghan Markle a selection of handbags just a fortnight ago, it was little more than a hopeful punt.

The 45-year-old mother-of-four could never have imagined the dramatic effect it would have on the fortunes of her fledgling Scottish company, Strathberry.

At the time, as far as the public was aware, Ms Markle was not yet engaged and had not even relocated to London.

Every Perfect Detail About Meghan Markle's Debut Royal Look — Styled By Her Best Friend!
Quote
Meghan’s look was selected from afar by her best friend, stylist Jessica Mulroney. She emailed the designers on the future royal’s behalf and arranged for a selection of pieces to be sent to Kensington Palace. Though the look was not completely dissimilar to what Kate would wear to an official event, Goldman says, “I think it was more modern.” (Mulroney is also the stylist to Sophie Trudeau, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife and a fellow friend of Meghan’s.)

Aren't they supposed to send back gift such as clothes and accessories back to the company? Umm, I see a trap for greedy Meghan and co right there.

EXCLUSIVE: Meghan Markle's family share intimate and utterly enchanting private photo album proving Prince Harry's fiancée always was a little princess
Quote
Joseph says the family heard less from Meghan as she climbed the ladder of Hollywood success – she landed her starring role in Suits eight years ago.
This is from her mum's side of the family. She's definitely a ditcher.

^oops, sorry. A ditcher is someone that doesn't keep in contact with people that they did before like Mehgan doesn't with her friends and family as she moves up the social ladder.

Bishop refuses to congratulate the couple of the moment
Quote
A bishop who sparked outrage when he predicted Prince William's marriage would last only seven years has now refused to congratulate Prince Harry and his bride-to-be.
The acting Bishop of London, Pete Broadbent, whose diocese includes Kensington Palace where the couple live, said he 'declined to comment' when asked whether he wished Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a long and happy union.
His remarks contrasted with the delight expressed by other senior clerics including the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and the Archbishop of York John Sentamu.
Bishop Broadbent, 65, was suspended in the run-up to Prince William's 2011 wedding after The Mail on Sunday revealed he had branded the Prince and his fiancee Kate Middleton 'shallow celebrities' and called the Royals 'philanderers' who cost 'an arm and a leg'.
In a notorious Facebook rant, he said he could not stand the 'nauseating tosh' surrounding the event, and suggested that he and fellow republicans should go to Calais for the day.
Lambeth Palace declined to comment yesterday.

Depending on how long it's been since she relaxed her hair, it could go right back to what it looked like when she was a kid.

I'm curious about the people criticising her for promoting brands and saying she is cashing in for freebies. How is she expected to avoid product placement? She has to wear clothes!

^ Plus the admission of the company that they sent her stuff, incl said bag.

^^ Generally, you can gauge whether it is a product placement or not by the ad accompanying the article: If the very item worn by the person is in a small ad space with price (and link to shop it), then it 100% is a product placement, from which person, paper and brand further make money. In this case Megs, the dm and the handbag company all cashed in.

Maybe she isn't a "ditcher",  the girl is probably like I was whenever I was stationed overseas. During that time I stayed in constant contact with my mom and through her indirectly with my family.  If you notice he said since she has been doing "Suits".  The family seems to be tightly woven. (now i have to make  some phone calls to family  members  :sob:)

No it isn't  :there: and time will tell...

Does anyone want to guess what she wears to next engagement?  I am still saying she may go the conservative route with wool trousers and turtles maybe pantsuits (just because I think she is a copycat)... I really believe she may start the copying of PD, etc, and take it into overdrive. I think she wants to be known as a PD-esque humanitarian.   :cookie: :bored: Boring...

Mods, if this is not the correct thread :sorry: I wasn't sure where to put this question. Is there a fashion thread? Or a copycats thread for the lot of them? :thankyou:
