My daily health shake (boring!).  Protein powder, chia seeds, coconut oil, Mayan superfine raw chocolate powder, skim milk, banana, chopped ice, K2, and astaxanthin-V, blend well.  It's actually pretty delicious.

But I am full.  Just before had:
capriccio of salmon
fish (grouper) with artichokes and potatoes
crème brûlée

Tea and cookies
Do not tempt me Mia!!

sushi  :sob:

well today i went to a sushi bar.. that we have in my town.... we will go a very tipical portuguese restaurant but we saw a japonese restaurant called sushi bar!!!! and i remember a special dinner a few years ago and it was ok... but when i was there they only have sushi!!!! and worst i paid 70€ just for my food!!!! i'm so sad!!!! if i went to ,y first choise i will eat so well and only spent 30€ and have a lot of fun because there we have karaoke

OMG.

I am sorry for what happened to you.  I understand your reaction now.  It is u.n.b.e.l.i.e.v.a.b.l.e even into the most chic restaurants, it isn’t that expensive without the wine/drink.  Furthermore, if the customer is not satisfied they redo what he has ordered or do not make him pay (for the sake of their reputation)!

 A friend made that choice few years ago and since it was so great (food & ambiance) for its cost, she is doing celebrating her birthday every year since then there.  Sometimes (if not most of times) simple choices are the best!

Oatmeal, blueberries and tangerine juice.  I'm trying!   :bouncy:  (It's gym day, too.  Swim laps instead, methinks.  The day's too nice to geek-out on the elliptical.)

I had to take a day off from the protein shake with chia seeds and blah blah that my doc drinks every frickin' day.  He's in amazing shape, tho.  I just *despise* him.  J/K.

^^^ MK: no, I don't have any announcements to make, it's just the name of the soup. Progresso sells it by the can, but I don't like it as well as my family's recipe, handed down from one of my Great Grandmother's. If I get married though, I'll make sure we all can have the opportunity for some of Great Grandmama's Italian Wedding Soup! It's healthy & delicious. :loveshower:

P.S. In reality, I think the name just means a confluence of ingredients to produce the flavorful soup.  :dontknow: I've never eaten the soup at any of our family's Italian weddings. But we do have lots of Italian cookies and pastries at weddings from my Italian side! :stars:

Lonnng story, short.  I went to a wine tasting at the San Diego Wine and Culinary Institute tonight to see my buddy Olivier Magny (check it out sometime - totally cool.  www.o-chateau.com).  Anyway,  I'm eating leftover pate', brie, crackers, prosciutto, fig jam, some other really good soft cheese, and almonds.

It's funny, I don't get stupid on French wine and I asked why at the event.  Olivier said it was because there's a lower alcohol content in French wine than California's because there isn't as much sun there.  Evidently, the sun causes more sugar which causes more alcohol.  Makes sense.  Sancerre was my fave.  I met him when I was in Paris and took his sunset cruise.  It's  a must-do.

Now, I think I'll move on over to the chocolate cheese-cake a la Golden Girls.

In your honor, Akasha, I have fig jam, cheese, more soft cheese and crackers that are yummy.  I'll get some french bread to slice and we'll be all set.  Hmmmm. ??? And some white wine, oh yeah.

For now, I'm having the usual California salad, with toasted French bread crisps.  Waaaay too many greens, goofy seeds that I can never remember, grape tomatoes, feta, pickled beets, walnuts, craisins, and some dressing that I wish was Catalina.  And for protein:  Ahi.  AaaaaaahIIIII.

^Thanksgiving leftovers are like the pyramids, Akasha.  Ted has returned so things will change.  Between my brother, his son and Ted, I've already lost the apple, pumpkin and (quickly made) chocolate cake.  They also plowed through the cranberry crisp and all of the crescent rolls as well as the cheese, crackers and spinach dip. It's time for somebody to make a Shepherd's Pie.

I'd love to have a salad of some kind.  I might have to have one shipped in.

Errr don't you guy's have supermarkets???
I just bought the green stuff fresh at my market for less then 10$ and it'll serve at least 4 ppl. (my mum and I will eat it again tomorrow as a side salat with a nice cordon bleu )

Title: Re: What are you eating
Post by: Yooper on December 04, 2013, 09:02:49 pm
Yes, we have supermarkets but the produce is quite tired and certainly not fresh.  Not this time of year anyway, so it's a challenge to be truly healthy.  It's very hard to find good lettuce let alone fresh vegetables.  When this was my main residence, I grew my own window lettuce.  I had to.

It's funny, the big deal is to order oranges for the winter.  It's for a charity/church but everybody waits for those fresh fruits.  I'm having my friends send me care packages of papaya, tomatoes, oranges, tangerines and assorted other things.  Best health insurance my grandmother always said.

Title: Re: What are you eating
Post by: YooperModerator on December 04, 2013, 11:51:34 pm
Sorry I forgot for a sec that you're up in yeti land... :tehe: :flower:
In Europe we manage to get the basic greens (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, celery, leek, potatoes, radish, peppers) all year round!
Fruit assortment is smaller mostly oranges, apple, pear, kiwi and grapes (yuck) so no seasonal or tropical stuff like cherry strawberries, pineapple or papaya's
But we can still buy fruit and veggies in our local markets!
And if you really want you can just go to a bigger store or deli to get the whole shebang. :tehe: (for a bigger price of course)

True, in winter a lot of it is grown in green houses and import from the south like Spain Italy and Greece goes up but with the open borders in the EU is not that hard or expensive any more.
Don't you guy's import fruit and veggies from Mexico or the southern states?!  ???
Because if you compare Europe with US size wise that what we do in winter.

Perhaps we're spoiled in Europe food wise 'cause I never considered not having veggie's and fruit in winter in the shop's.  :dontknow:

So what, you guy's survive on meat and potatoes over there in winter?
Say if you're truly desperate for some mixed green check out Mac Do, they usually have some salad dish on their menu, at least over here they do....(I know it's silly to go a fast food joint for a salat but hey it's worth a shot no?)

Title: Re: What are you eating

Hadn't thought of McD's.  But, good call as long as you avoid the croutons and dressing they use.  Yeah, we get fruits (apples, really sad bananas, grapes) and veggies but they're picked undoubtedly in Mexico and it takes a good week to 10 days to get them up here so, well, for instance, I bought 3 bananas and by the next day they were black, so you have to eat them in the store, I guess.  The lettuce is ok.  We get iceberg and romaine but, again, it's just mostly water and any vitamin content evaporated on the truck.

It's really a shock to my system so I drink as much vitamin and protein drinks that I can get and go to a local co-op to get good, whole grain breads.  I just miss the availability and feeling of fresh produce.  There really is a difference.  Obesity is another problem up here and it's easy to see why.  Unfortunately, less expensive food is not always the best for you.

You really are spoiled in Europe and it's one of the many things I love when I get there.  The food is out of this world by comparison.  And I love it that they cook whatever is the freshest of the day.  Yum.

Tonight it's going to be canned soup.  Lentil.  yay.

The heck! Do you transport the stuff on pony express or what? 10 day's on the road?  :o
I know we fly over some stuff from africa (tropical fruit) but most of it is done on road as well I guess within 3 or 4 day's from Spain harvest to Belgium wholesale market then maybe another two day's until in the actual grocery shops.
What takes you guy's so long? No wonder all the vitamins are gone even if you have it in fridge ore freeze truck's! :-

And I don't mean banana's, they spend two weeks on the boat from Africa to us as well, but regular stuff like tomatoes don't you grow that in cali?

Hot dip sandwich.  Probably the least healthy thing on earth, but dang good.  Beef, melted cheese on crusty roll with a dipping broth.

^Akasha, you have to see this part of the world to believe it.  It's impossible to get in/out this time of year and only two flights a day that do not ship food, so it's truckers.  (It took two weeks to get my furniture here from Cali, for a frame of reference - BIG country)  Right now, the only place in the US that is growing anything is the deep, deep south or California/Texas.  Almost every box I see in the local grocery is from Mexico, tho.  Frozen veggies are the only way to go.

^I, too.  But, I've been doing some major cooking ahead of time so have taste-tested plenty.  Everything's almost done but the turkey itself and the pie(s).  Ate quite a few roasted chestnuts, bean casserole, bread cubes, and so on.  So, yogurt for dinner and bring on the fat pants tomorrow.

just put the pumpkin pie in - stuffing done and of course heavily sampled.

Roasting chestnuts now - making brussel sprouts with chestnuts tomorrow but trying to get as much done now.

Ah yes - good reminder - eating pants!

do you guys make your own stuffing with toasted bread or do you use the stove top or a mix bread and stove top ...?

Title: Re: What are you eating
Post by: YooperModerator on November 27, 2014, 03:07:55 am
^I use a couple day old Italian bread and make my own but have done the Stove Top thing when I was young and learning but still added extra onions, celery and chicken broth.  You?

Title: Re: What are you eating
Post by: Fly on the wall on November 27, 2014, 03:43:27 am
i use both bread and stove top onions, celery, mushrooms Scotch bonnet for spice and chicken broth

Title: Re: What are you eating
Post by: cate1949 on November 27, 2014, 04:28:43 am
I use stuffing bread - order it from my supermarket - it is unsliced and a bit denser than regular white bread

I also add loose sausage meat (obviously browned first), a lot of celery, salt, pepper  and thyme.  A old fashioned sausage stuffing.

Title: Re: What are you eating
Post by: YooperModerator on November 27, 2014, 04:35:15 am
^I use sausage, too.  With chestnuts and parmesan.  It was my grandmother's recipe.  In fact, it's browned and in a container in the garage waiting to put it all together.  The chicken broth is finally done and all I have left to do is shave the chocolate for cocoa tomorrow night.  Oh, as for the bread, I find the long, seasoned italian bread works best for me if it's not too thick.

My pies really turned out great!  I'm so tickled because when I blended the ingredients it was too much so I had to make two and more pie crust but they're great.  I'm beat.

In French, 'blond' is masculine and 'blonde' is feminine. I always lol to myself when I see "blonde man" because it sounds like he is wearing a Hannah Montana wig or flowers in his hair or something.

And then when I see a man talk about his 'fiancé' or a woman talk about her 'fiancée', I go like  :- for a second because I saw the engagement photos, and they are marrying someone of the opposite sex.
