The Grand Duchess Vladimir (Marie Pavlovna) had three sons: Cyril, Boris and Andrei and a daughter Elena. Did not the four children all get some of their mother's jewels?

^Queen Mary bought the Vladimir tiara, as it's known, from the family of the Grand Duchess Vladimir in 1921. She also bought Faberge pieces that she liked as they came onto the market. The market for jewels was flooded in the early 1920s as those Russian noble families that had managed to escape were cash poor. No doubt the Grand Duchess's children inherited some jewellery but the Vladimir was the biggie. At the time it had pearl pendants but Mary had several tiaras with pearls. There were a few emeralds lying about in the vault so she had them converted to alternative pendants. Queen Elizabeth wears the Vladinir today.

I've just googled "Vladimir jewellery queen" and wow. What a tiara! HM can really carry off these large pieces of jewellery.

^I think it was really a case of Queen Mary being in love with the tiara, and indeed with jewellery of all kinds. Tiaras can give you a headache and I'd imagine the Vladimir being very heavy to wear.

That didn't trouble Queen Mary. She would often wear tiara, earrings, several bracelets, gold and diamond chains, a couple of ropes of pearls, brooches, a stomacher, she would be just a-glitter on occasions when tiaras were worn which was a great deal more often than nowadays.

She bought jewellery and had it restored or changed and had pieces made up from stones in the vaults, and had been given huge amounts of jewellery for her wedding anyway from various sources. The BRF is definitely the beneficiary of Queen Mary's interest in gems!

Who knows what would have become of the Vladimir Tiara had it remained in Russia?

^ I think the Bolsheviks dismantled many of the pieces that were actually left behind or seized. A great loss on some gorgeous things, not just jewellery. The Bolsheviks destroyed quite a lot after taking over (they didn't just dismantle and recycle), so much that's lost to us now.

Some of the Imperial Faberge Eggs have completely disappeared. Did the Dowager Empress Marie Feodorovna take all of her Faberge Eggs to Denmark?

^ No, Dowager Marie only managed to take one with her. Many were scattered. Peter Faberge's business was seized, he fled to Switzerland and died there in the 1920s of a broken heart. Very sad. However, that's what happens I suppose when the simmering boiler of hundreds of years of Romanov tyranny and autocracy finally explodes.

This is quite an interesting little article on the Faberge Easter eggs by The Daily Beast.

The Silver Imperial Crown made of silver and covered with diamonds was made for Empress Elizabeth, the wife of Emperor Alexander I, by the French jeweller Duval in 1801.
