Awesome news.  Perhaps she'll be like CP Sarah of Brunei and finish her education after marriage.

I'm sure she will. In the East, I'm sure her family is more interested in a good marriage than a good education; this is surely huge for them and I am sure that she will finish once she is securely married.

From Netty's Royalty Page Royal News May:

Jetsun Pema was born at Thimphu, Bhutan, on 4 June 1990 as the second eldest child of Dhondup Gyaltshen, grandson of Trashigang Dzongpon Dopola (governor of Trashigang), and Sonam Chuki, who is a member of the family of Bumthang Pangtey. She has two brothers and two sisters. She attended Regents College in London, UK, Lawrence School in Sanawar, St. Joseph's Convent in Kalimpong, India, Changangkha Lower Secondary School and Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School in Thimphu.

She has the same great-great-grandfather with her husband-to-be.
Her maternal grandfather was one of the most high respected priests in Bhutan.
Her full name is 'Ashi Jetsun Pema' with 'Ashi' means 'Princess' just like 'Lalla' in Morocco.

I don't like to spoil the party, but his father married 4 sisters.
It is appearantly tradition.

http://2008.bhutan-360.com/the-royal-family-of-bhutan/

Yes, he did. Like his father, and his grandfather before him. According to the local beliefs the four Consort Queens are the 'guardian angels' of East, West, North and South of the kingdom. They protect crops and guarantee the prosperity of the country.
I wonder if HM the King dares to break the tradition nowadays.

Here's the royal site linked to Thailand's foreign affairs site:
http://www.mfa.go.th/royalweb/

At least, I think that's the real one.  I found the link here: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/1996.php on the far right side.

Their monarchy is supposedly in decline though from what I read during last year's riots. Maybe things have gotten better?  :dontknow:

Title: Bhutanese Royal World Tour
Post by: royal_watcher05 on November 27, 2011, 02:53:26 pm
http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/251171/20111117/bhutan-s-royal-couple-visits-japan-national.htm

Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and his wife, Queen Jetsun Pema, arrived in Tokyo Tuesday, kicking-off their six-day visit to Japan.

The newlywed royal couple of the Himalayan kingdom made their visit truly official as the duo were dressed in the Bhutanese national dress. Bhutan has a dress code for its citizens, who have to wear it in public every day. The national dress code, known as Driglam Namzha, was introduced in the 17th century to give the Bhutanese a distinct identity.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The king and queen of Bhutan visited Fukushima Prefecture Friday to encourage people affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami and the nuclear crisis triggered by the disaster.

They are now in the U.K.

I hope this wasn't posted elsewhere.

Will post more links and pictures once I can find them. Overall, I really liked Queen Jetsun's clothing and style. I can't believe she is only 21. She did a fantastic job  on this visit. I really believe she has an innate sense of grace and poise. I am quite impressed by her.

King-father Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia, who was never far from the center of his country's politics through a half-century of war, genocide and upheaval, has died. He was 89. Cambodian government spokesman Khieu Kanharith said Sihanouk died of natural causes early Monday in Beijing, where he had traveled for medical treatment.

Unpredictable, ebullient, mercurial, autocratic, self-indulgent - these are just some of the descriptions applied over the years to former King Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia.

Married six times and the father of at least 14 children, a saxophone player, a song writer, a film maker, a bon vivant who loved French cooking and wines, Sihanouk was never afraid of appearing eccentric.

"Cambodians are all naughty boys, and that includes me," he once said.

Yet beneath all the joking and indulgence was a master politician and leader who frequently changed allegiances but always tried to preserve the unity of his country and prevent it being gobbled up by the big powers.

Sihanouk was born in 1922, the eldest son of King Norodom Suramarit and Queen Kossamak.

Educated at French schools in Saigon and in Paris, the Nazi controlled Vichy government in France crowned Sihanouk king of Cambodia in 1941, bypassing his father in the hope that the 18 year old could easily be manipulated.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-19943965

He had as many wives as King Henry VIII. I hope there is a movie somewhere on King Sihanouk, I'd love to see it.

RIP

Quote
It has all the makings of a best-selling novel.

An Indian maharajah crowned as a toddler and rich beyond imagination falls into a deep depression in old age after losing his only son.

After his own death a few months later, his daughters, the princesses, don't get the palaces, gold and vast lands they claim as their birthright.

Instead, they are given a few dollars a month from palace officials they accuse of scheming to usurp the royal billions with a forged will. The fight rages for decades.

On Saturday, an Indian court brought this chapter to a close, ruling that the will of Maharajah Harinder Singh Brar of Faridkot was fabricated.

His daughters will now inherit the estimated £2.6billion estate, instead of a trust run by his former servants and palace officials.

Thai princess uses social media to ‘declare war’: Photos posted by Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol widely interpreted as a sign of her support for anti-government protesters
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/thai-princess-uses-social-media-to-declare-war-photos-posted-by-princess-chulabhorn-mahidol-widely-interpreted-as-a-sign-of-her-support-for-antigovernment-protesters-9122267.html
Quote
It was a bolt from the red, white and blue. A few weeks ago the youngest daughter of Thailand’s ageing king posted several photographs of herself on social media. One of them showed her with hair braids of red, blue and white; another of her wearing a similarly-striped bracelet. These are the colours of Thailand’s national flag, but they have also come to be associated with the anti-government protesters who have rocked the country as they seek to oust Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.  Whether or not it was her intention to do so, the posting of the images by Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol was widely interpreted as a sign of her support for the anti-government forces.
"It was seen as a declaration of war," said a Thai political analyst sympathetic to the government, who asked not to be named. "Her doing that gave a symbol that elements within the palace support this protest 100 per cent."
The furore has drawn attention to an issue that is rarely discussed in public, but which some say is crucial to understanding what is happening in Thailand.
While the conflict is fuelled by several factors, say those analysts, the declining health of 86-year-old King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the behind-the-scenes jostling for position ahead of his succession is a major driver of the turmoil playing out on the streets of Bangkok.

How future queen of Thailand (wearing only a tiny G-string) let her poodle Foo Foo eat cake: As coup rocks Bangkok, video reveals royal couple’s decadent lifestyle

But the guest of honour at the event was not a visiting head of state or local dignitary – but the couple’s pampered poodle, Foo Foo.

A video of the decadent event shot at the Thai Royal Palace in Bangkok shows Princess Srirasmi – a former waitress – cavorting in just a tiny G-string as she feeds the dog cake.

the video emerged as Thailand is rocked by a military coup. Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra was detained in Bangkok on Friday, and hundreds of people have taken to the streets to protest about the military’s power-grab.

The Crown Prince and his wife yesterday left Tylney Hall, a five-star hotel in Hampshire, where they and a 30-strong entourage had been ensconced for almost a week.

The video is sure to intensify concerns about Prince Maha’s fitness to succeed his father, 86-year-old King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The king, who is said to have Parkinson’s disease, has not been seen in public since the military junta decreed martial law.

How disgraceful

What a complete disgrace modern royalty is today.

Quote
Princess Srirasmi – a former waitress –

Another waitress makes good, future Queen, runs around topless holding some huge party for a pet dog for pity's sake and this has likely just crashed the entire Thai monarchy. Thousands upon thousands of years of tradition and dignity thrown away on a tart's self indulgence.

Were there no Thai princesses that could have been chosen, or did Prince Maha end up demanding his 'human rights' to marry her?

^ That's true, I first heard about this when it was published on Wikileaks years ago, but it was never published by the Thai press or made known to the public there due to Thailand's stringent lèse-majesté laws (expatriates living in Thailand probably know more about the royal family's scandals than their subjects do, sadly enough): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lèse_majesté_in_Thailand

The DM was deliberately misleading their readers when they called her a "former waitress" - Srirasmi became a royal lady-in-waiting when she was only 22, just after she'd graduated from business school in Bangkok, so I doubt the palace ever looked unfavourably on her relationship with the prince. If she ever waitressed at all, it was to support herself whilst she studied, and I don't see why anybody can possibly look down on her for that - it's not her fault she was born into a poor family. (Incidentally, she has received a further two degrees since business school whilst still in royal service and neither of them were honorary either - she didn't marry until she was 30.)

This "birthday party" also took place on private royal grounds (hardly the same as allowing your skirt to blow up on the airport tarmac in front of the world's press) and apparently this sort of behaviour is typical of Prince Maha even when he was married to his former wives, one of whom was an aristocrat, so I'd guess this entire evening came about as a result of his desires/influence on her and the blame should therefore be placed on him rather than Srirasmi (that was actually his dog, not hers), especially when one considers how young she was when she entered the palace. I know we're all free to express our own opinions, but I personally don't like how any indication that a royal spouse's background was somehow "lower" is immediately pounced upon by some members - background and breeding has little if any bearing on a person's character, as numerous scandals involving blood-royals prove. I don't mean to attack anyone, I'm just stating my opinion.

IMO anyone who holds a royal title, private in their own home or not have no business allowing others to take pictures or video unless they want it to be known publicly.....Kate was pictures on a private vacation nakkid but got ripped for it...her back ground isn't the brightest either...Prince Harry was pictures nude in a private room on vacation...and got his a*s handed to him....it's not because of them being a private citizen because they're not...they have titles and shouldn't allow themselves to be exposed in such a way

She's the future Queen of Thailand; we blasted Kate because even though she was in private property, she was still acting like this. The Crown Princess is supposed to show more respect for herself and she looks no different than any other Thai sex worker, bad bad bad for a woman who is supposed to be future Queen Consort of an extremely conservative royal family. Do none of the future Queen Consorts of the reigning dynasties have any self respect for themselves.

Cripes, buy thirty she was likely well trained and should have been knowing of how to behave.

Thailand crown prince strips wife's family of royal name
Thailand's Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn has asked the government to strip his wife's family of their royally bestowed name.

It comes after seven of her close relatives were arrested in a purge of officials allegedly involved in corruption.

Thailand crown prince's wife resigns from royal role

he wife of Thailand's Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, Srirasmi, has resigned her royal position, the palace has announced.

A statement said King Bhumibol Adulyadej had accepted Princess Srirasmi's written request.

Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn had asked the government to strip his wife's family of their royally bestowed name.

Seven of her relatives had been arrested in a purge of officials allegedly involved in corruption.

The palace statement, which appeared in the Royal Gazette, read: "Princess Srirasmi, wife of Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn... has written to respectfully resign from her status in the royal family and permission has been granted by His Majesty the King."

Srirasmi is the crown prince's third wife, and the pair married in 2001. They have a son.

He was already known to be estranged from the princess, although they continued to attend official functions together.

The princess's uncle, a police general, was arrested over accusations of amassing vast wealth through smuggling and gambling rackets.

Four of her siblings and two other relatives have also been held.

Srirasmi would have been expected to become queen when the crown prince succeeded his father.

It's best the marriage end, her family and herself ruined themselves.

We nurture them as if we were nurturing the prince': The people of Bhutan celebrate the birth of the king and queen's first son by planting 108,000 trees across the nation

The citizens of Bhutan have jointed together to plant 108,000 trees across the Himalayan nation to honor the beloved king and queen's new baby boy.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck, 36, and Queen Jetsun Pema, 25, who are wildly popular in the nation of 800,000, announced the birth of their first child on February 5. The prince will officially be named on April 16, when he is two months old.

Last week, Prime Minister Tschering Tobgay joined tens of thousands of volunteers in planting the trees in celebration of the newest member of the royal family.

In Buddhism, trees are symbols of longevity, health, beauty and compassion. The number of saplings was also symbolic, as Buddhists believe each person is required to overcome 108 defilements in order to achieve enlightenment.

'The trees will serve as a constant reminder to all of us about the importance of the Wangchuck Dynasty,' said Tenzin Lekphell, the head of a private company that organized the tree planting.

The species of trees planted range from teak to oak, and dogwood to pine, depending on the altitude at which they were planted, Lekphell said.

Bhutan prizes environmental initiatives highly, enshrining conservation in a constitution that also declares that 60 percent of the country must always be under forest cover

He's getting so big! Dragon King and Queen of Bhutan take the six-month-old Prince out for official royal visit to his mother's ancestral home
The new son of the King and Queen of Bhutan is just about to turn six months old — but when you're a royal, you're never to young to start greeting your subjects.
King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck, 36, and Queen Jetsun Pema, 26, made two public appearances this week in Bhutan's Bumthang district, bringing along their little boy, Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, His Royal Highness The Gyalsey.
The sweet prince has already grown so much since his last public outing in June, when he visited the ancestral home of the Wangchuck Dynasty.

Japan's Prince Mikasa, world's oldest royal, dies at 100
Japanese Prince Mikasa, uncle of Emperor Akihito, died at the age of 100 on Thursday, 27 October. He was the oldest imperial family member in the world.

According to local media reports, his health had waned in the last few months and had been in and out of hospital for pneumonia since May. He died at 8.34am local time at a hospital in Tokyo after his condition worsened.http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/japans-prince-mikasa-worlds-oldest-royal-dies-100-1588470?utm_source=social&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=/japans-prince-mikasa-worlds-oldest-royal-dies-100-1588470

Princess Aiko of Japan, 14, misses school for a month due to 'exam stress'
Princess Aiko of Japan, the granddaughter of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, has been absent from school for over a month due to poor health.

An Imperial Household Agency official said that the 14-year-old princess has been suffering fatigue, caused by summer exam stress and the preparation for a school athletic event.

She has missed school since the end of September and earlier this month her mother Crown Princess Masako, who has battled anxiety, took her to hospital.

:sob: Poor girl. Schools put far too much pressure on kids these days. What happened to enjoying one's childhood? Nope, it's all about who has the best grades, does the most extracurricular activities, the most community service. Get one bad grade on a test and your GPA could drop. No wonder so many kids have anxiety and depression.

The problem is, there is no "getting out"... it's the education system we have in place. All countries are like that. It's all super competitive. You have to know the right people to get into the best preschool. Then you search the area for the best elementary school, then look for which middle school has the best program, then you have to take entrance exams to get into high school. Once you're in high school (Aiko is 14, almost 15), it's all about being the best at everything so you can get into the top university. Kids aren't allowed to be kids anymore because it's all about competing to be the best rather than the best each child can be.

But she can get out from the royal lifestyle. If she gets out and is sent to study to another country it will be like she is in another world.

Probably she gets a lot more pressure because she is the daughter to the prince. She must be perfect both at school and at home.

Princess Mako’s marriage to be postponed over ‘lack of preparation,’ Imperial Household Agency says

Imperial Household Agency said Tuesday that the formal engagement and marriage of Princess Mako — the eldest granddaughter of Emperor Akihito — and her fiance, Kei Komuro, will be postponed until 2020 due to “lack of preparation.”

The couple, both 26, were supposed to be formally engaged in a traditional court ceremony called Nosai no Gi on March 4, ahead of their planned wedding on Nov. 4. The princess said through the agency she “came to recognize the lack of time to make sufficient preparations.”
